GREENFIELD FOODS SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Castleblayney 1-13, Killanny 0-10.
A more experienced and economical Castleblayney got their championship aspirations back on track when they proved that little bit too streetwise for Killanny in this entertaining if never spectacular sudden death play-off in Aughnamullen yesterday. Castleblayney were never headed in the entire contest after they opened their account through Dermot Malone in the 1st minute with the best Killanny achieved was being level at a point apiece after 3 minutes. Castleblayney went on to lead as half-time by 1-7 to 0-5, the goal by Mark Treanor in the 23rd minute. In the second-half Killanny made the Castleblayney work hard for scores as they defended in numbers and picked off some good points on counter attacks themselves but they never looked like turning it around while Castleblayney were always able to manufacture scores when they were needed most and they deservedly advance to the next round while Killanny go out of the championship.
