Castleblayney Hurling Club notes

June 24, 2015

U6/U8/U10

Our juveniles are taking a break from training for two weeks after last night's session. Training resumes on the 15th of July and the next blitz will take place in Cloghan on the 22nd of July

U12s

Our u12 team put in a good workmanlike performance against a very accomplished Monaghan Harps team on Monday evening. Played in ideal conditions the first half was a keenly contested and very even affair.
Pauric Bolger and Thomas Keenan in the full back line stood firm while under strong pressure from a lively Harps forward line . Brandon McCagues touch in goal was assured and his puck outs effective. Paudie Heavin and Zachery McArdle had their work cut out but stuck manfully to their task. The midfield battle ebbed and flowed but Joe Carey and Leo Moloney gave as good as they got. Gradually Thomas Hughes' stick work began to pay dividends and with David Moorehead , Kieran Mc Bride and Jason Campbell growing into the game the teams finished level at half time.
The second half saw the Blayney boys begin to get on top with great contributions from Ross Maguire, Tristan Duffy, Nathan McArdle, Calum Madden, Ultan and Kealan McMahon, Calum Maguire and Daniel McShane alike. When the final whistle sounded Blayney had five points to spare. Well done boys. Remember training Monday 6 to 7. Wednesday 6.30 to 7.30.
Scorers. Thomas Hughes 1-7, Jason Campbell 0-2, Leo Moloney 0-2, Joe Carey 1-0

U14s

Our U14 team competed in Féile na nGael this weekend and acquitted themselves very well. On Friday afternoon they travelled to Cavan and played two matches, beating East Cavan Gaels and losing out to Caiseal Gaels from Mayo. On Saturday morning, Blayney faced their guests in a game against Drumcliff from Sligo in St Mary's Park. A win in this game saw them qualify for the knockout stages of the cup competition but unfortunately they came up against a very strong St Fechin's side from Louth and for the second year in a row lost out to the eventual winners of the division. Well done to Noel, Catriona, Ger and all of those involved in the preparations for the event over the last few weeks. Thanks to all of the host families for their generous hospitality, to Castleblayney Faughs for the use of their excellent facilities and to all of the volunteers who helped out

U16s

Our U16 team had a great win against Monaghan Harps on Monday last which puts them in strong position in the league. The game was an end to end affair with some great scores taken by both sides. A great second half showing from the team got them over the line with Kian O'Connor, Craig Callan, Joshua Mone, Stephen McNally and Jordan Carville particularly impressive. Team Kian O'Connor, Omar Duffy, Mark Brennan, Jason Lynch, Steven Irwin, Jack McGurgan, Craig Callan, Logan McQuillan, Joshua Mone, Steven McNally, Jordan Carville, Declan Hughes. Next match is Monday week away to Cootehill. Training this Monday in Concra at 6pm

Reserve Champions

Well done to our reserve team who won the Monaghan Development Hurling League final on Tuesday night with a 4-15 to 1-19 win over Truagh. A workmanlike performance in the first half laid the foundations for the win and an impressive performance from the forwards in the second half was enough to ensure victory. Well done to all involved on securing what will hopefully be the first silverware of another successful year. Team: R McAteer, E Leonard, P Murphy, J Lacey, W Funcheon, B Connor, A Kerr, C McNally, S Forde, N Adair, H Byrne, C McBride, B McGuigan, F Finnegan, P Malone.
