Car Wash Fund Raiser

Do you want to travel to Breffni Park in style? Do you want your car looking perfect? If the answer is yes then we have the solution because our underage players will be holding a car wash fund raiser this Saturday 23rd May between 10am to 6pm. That's right folks, they will clean and polish your car and have it absolutely sparkling ahead of your trip to watch the Cavan v Monaghan match. It takes place at Gerry & Andrea Coyle's Service Station who have once again kindly donated their fine facilities to accommodate the event and we sincerely thank them for their sponsorship and generosity. Please let your family and friends know and please support this car wash fundraiser and get your car down for a proper wash and make a donation towards the juvenile section of our club and as always your support of this event will be deeply appreciated.
Eurotech Junior Football League
Our senior footballers returned to action in the Eurotech Junior Football League last Sunday 17th May when they played Toome at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. While the scoreboard shows a ten point winning margin we were made to fight all the way by a determined Toome side in this tough and hard fought battle. There was very little between the teams in a keenly contested first half, with the game flowing from end to end, and both teams recorded some excellent scores and at the interval we held a marginal advantage leading 0-6 to 0-5. I wasn't privy to the managers half-time pep talk but I can only imagine it was quite 'spirited' and maybe even some 'strong' words were expressed because we started the second half in a determined mood and the game shifted dramatically as we took the game to Toome and raced into a 1-9 to 0-7 lead with some fantastic scores. We maintained our impressive form and continued to hold the upper hand as we tagged on another 1-2 to secure the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 2-11 Toome 0-7.
Green & White Jersey
I have to say it was great to see Mark McGuirk, last Sunday, back wearing the 'green & white' jersey after an eighteen month layoff with a cruciate ligament knee injury. We hope he can remain injury free and we look forward to seeing him gracing the playing fields and buzzing around defences in the months ahead.  All the best Mark.

Go Games Blitz - Under 8
Pairc Naomh Mhuire was certainly transformed into a hive of activity last Saturday 16th May as we hosted a very enjoyable and exciting Under 8 Go Games Blitz. The main objective of the Go Games is to provide full participation and give all children a chance to play our games in a fun and an enjoyable environment and it was great to see so many youngsters from various clubs having fun playing our National game and it is always great to see the future stars of the club perform at this level in a carefree and exciting manner. Thankfully, the weather remained dry and teams competing on the day included Clones, Currin, Tyholland and our own wee bunch of warrior's. Each team played three games and all matches were very entertaining and free-flowing and full credit to all the coaches and mentors for having the teams well organised. All the boys and girls acquitted themselves exceptionally well and gave a wonderful display, showing great enthusiasm and the signs are very promising for the future. A special word of mention to our hard working coaches & mentors, Sean McCaffrey, Sharon Fox, Anthony Tate and Vincent Greenan, who freely gave up their time this morning to help organise and look after the future players of the club and many thanks to our coaching & games development officer Pascal Smyth who organised the blitz and for making sure it ran smoothly. Its people like this that makes the Gaelic Athletic Association so special and we appreciate all the hard work they do. We all know the important role referees play within the GAA and I would like extend a massive thank you to Katie McCollum who, at short notice, stepped in and refereed a number of games. Finally, it was wonderful to see so many parents there to support and encourage the kids and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and it takes place next Saturday 23rd May at Pairc Naomh Mhuire, between 10am to 12 noon, when our under 10 footballers showcase their skills. Well done everyone and keep up the good work.

Gerry's Prepared Veg - Under 12 Competitive League
Our under 12 team were in action last Saturday 16th May when they travelled to play Doohamlet in the Gerry's Prepared Veg division 4 league campaign and while they gave a great performance the home side secured the spoils.  Doohamlet settled quickly into their stride and went into an early lead, leading 0-3 to 0-0 midway through the first half. However, we had other ideas and some lovely scores from Adam Elliott (0-2), Timothy Elliott (0-1) and Josh Brannigan (0-1) we dragged ourselves back into the game to lead by 0-3 to 0-4. Nonetheless, Doohamlet finished the first half the strongest and notched over some impressive points to leave the half time score Doohamlet 0-9 Rockcorry 0-4. We started strongly in the second half and while we played some exceptional football and had a few chances to reduce the arrears our efforts at the target unfortunately drifted wide. Doohamlet, on the other hand, upped the ante and hit a purple patch that yielded 3-1 in quick succession to open up a healthy advantage. The team have great heart and they showed it because they never died and with a determined effort they finished the game well and added two great points from the boots of Adam Elliot and Niall McCormick.  Before the game ended Doohamlet snatched another goal to leave the final score Doohamlet 4-10 Rockcorry 0-6. Please log onto www.rockcorryga.ie or visit our Facebook page to view a selection of action photographs. Their next game is on Saturday 30th May when they host Aghabog at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 12 noon.

Gerry's Prepared Veg Ballybay - Under 16
Our under 16 footballers were back in action last Thursday 14th May when they travelled to Aghabog to play Patrick Emmets in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Division 4 league campaign. This was a highly entertaining and competitive match played on a beautiful sunny warm evening and well done to both teams for playing the game in a very sporting manner and giving a good display of skill through-out the clash. While we suffered a 2-20 to 2-11 defeat the lads are gaining in confidence and they can all hold their heads high because they turned in an impressive team performance. They are a young team who showed wonderful enthusiasm, great determination and all worked hard for each other and represented the club very well. Keep up the good work. They are back in action tonight Thursday 21st May when they travel to Threemileshouse to play Sean McDermott's and throw-in time is 7.30pm. With examinations taking centre stage for the next couple of weeks the under 16 competition will now take a break to allow players concentrate and prepare for their exams. The next game is scheduled for Thursday 2nd July when they host Toome at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm.
Minor Football League Division 3On Tuesday 31st March the minor team will get their first taste of action when they entertain neighbours Latton in the McElvaney Recycling Minor Football League Division 3. The game is fixed for Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 6.30pm.
Our minor footballers travelled to Currin last Tuesday 12th May to play Patrick Emmets in the minor football league and while they put in a courageous performance and battled hard they sadly suffered another heavy defeat. The competition has now reached a situation where the league will be divided into two sections with the top four teams competing for the Cup while the bottom four teams will battle it out for a shield title.
