Inniskeen club notes

Ulster Intermediate club Final 2014
It's a long time since last January when the current crop of Inniskeen players came together under the watchful eye of Coach Alan O Neil in preparation for the Quinns Corner pre season league.
I have to admit eyebrows were first raised when word came back that we entered the league, however doubts where soon dismissed as the lads built momentum with early wins that seen us progress through to the final.
Although we were defeated by Dungannon, overall the tournament was quickly put down as a success as the lads hit the ground running with some great league performances.
This performance level continued though the early stages in the Championship where we produced hard fought wins over Sean's and Clones.
Although both match where unattractive, the ties demonstrated this current squads ability to grind out wins in pressure situations.
After a slow start in the semi, we swept Corduff aside with a blistering second half performance to set up a final show down with arch rivals Donaghmoyne.
Winning this one by a single point proved that this generation of Inniskeen players has all it takes to contest Senior football next year. The County final win brought great pride back around Pairc Grattan and everywhere you turn now, be in Carrick or Dundalk you are now very likely to see a young boy or girl wearing some Inniskeen Merchandise.
Ulster has been a up and down affair as we were fortunate to defeat a formidable Cootehill outfit in the first round in Clones thanks to a last gasp point from Captain Matty McKenna. However the Semi Final against Derrylin was a great demonstration of top class defending along with efficient scoring from our forwards.
This Sunday sees our lads contest their second Ulster Intermediate club final in 10 years, this is a remarkable achievement for our parish and regardless of the result in Armagh our young lads can hold their heads high when they come back to the village as they have represented the club, their families and parish with pride.
On behalf of the Committee I would like to wish Alan, Owen, Robbie and all the players the very best of luck. Now bring home the title and get the bomb fires lit, Hon the Grattan's.
