Annual General Meeting

There was plenty of activity, excitement and off course disappointment during the year and we will have another opportunity to reflect on the past twelve months and off course to start putting plans in place for the upcoming year when we hold our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 26th November starting at 7.30pm. This was my fifth year as Public Relations Officer, (I know where has the time gone!) and I have really enjoyed my term serving the club in this role. I hope that during my time you have enjoyed reading and looking at the various articles and browsing through the photo galleries and I want to record my sincere thanks to my fellow club officers and my family who have supported & helped me during my term. However, much of a cliché it may sound, it is still an inescapable fact that people are the main resource in the club. Without its members the club is nothing. One of my main concerns is the shortage of people willing to take on administrative roles and this issue is now centre stage because the number of people willing to stand up and take on committee jobs is decreasing and as a result represents the greatest challenge facing the club. I have always said that clubs grow and develop through the efforts, dedication and innovation of their members at any level. The more people that participate in the club the greater the chance of excellence emerging! We must remember a club is only as good as the people who work within it. If there was ever a time to step back and consider the future direction of our club, now is the time. The club is facing serious challenges, challenges that require members to get up and do something. It is how we respond to these challenges that will show our true character. I ask you - are you prepared to take up the challenge?
Annual Yearbook 2014 - 'Our Club…Our Passion'
This year's annual yearbook 2014 entitled 'Our Club…Our Passion is now available to download from our official website www.rockcorrygaa.ie. The format follows previous editions and includes plenty of team photographs, loads of actions shots from the games and a lot more stuff from various other events held during 2014. It consists of 30 chapters, 580 pages (full colour) and features up to 1200 photographs. I like to think of it as a pictorial story, an album of memories that in fifty years' time we can look back and remind ourselves of some wonderful moments and relive some great memories. If you would like a hard copy then please get in touch with myself. Due to the economies of scale and the number of units ordered the average cost of producing the book will reduce. It is quite expensive to print so I won't make any promises but I will do my best to try and get some yearbook's printed.
Coaching Workshops
The Monaghan Games & Coaching Development committee in conjunction with the Ulster GAA have released dates a number of workshops that will take place during November, December and January. First up is 'Review to Plan Ahead' which takes place on Tuesday 25th November in Cloghan at 7.30pm. Next up is 'Activate GAA Warm Up' which takes place on Thursday 4th December at Cremartin GAA at 7.30pm. A workshop entitled 'Fitness Testing & Developing a Programme' is scheduled for Tuesday 6th January at Cloghan at 7.30pm and finally 'Planning the Pre-Season' will take place on Tuesday 13th January in Cloghan at 7.30pm. Please visit our www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our Facebook page for a brief description of the workshops and names of the workshop tutors. For further information you can contact Patrick McCarron at 087-2163580 or [email protected].
Senior Citizen Sponsored Walk
It's that time of year once again when people get on their walking boots to raise money for the popular Senior Citizen's Christmas Party. The sponsored walk is organised by the Rockcorry Dartrey Community Alert committee and will take place on Saturday 6th December. Sponsorship cards are in circulation and I would urge everyone within the parish and surrounding communities to support this event which is to raise money for the popular Senior Citizen's Christmas Party. If you are interested in joining the walk and would like to help raise some money you can obtain a sponsorship card from Gerry Coyle. The walk promises to be a great day for all the family but if anyone who cannot do the walk but would like to make a donation then please get in touch. As they always say….every little helps.
Rockcorry Bowls Tournament
The local bowls club who are affiliated to the Irish Indoor Bowling Association are holding a Pairs Tournament and it will take place in St. Mary's Community Hall and nights of play will commence on Sunday 30th November and will continue every night for a week starting at 7.30pm sharp. The competition will be run under IIBA rules, guidelines and licence.
