U-14 - It was a case of so near and yet so far for our gallant Under 14s' who were caught at the death by a never say die Drumhowan team in the Div. 3 Shield Final in Cremartin on Saturday last. Having had two close and absorbing League encounters with the same opposition earlier in the year the Eire Og lads knew it would take something special to make it three wins out of three. The game itself was end to end stuff from start to finish with Eire Og getting off to a good start. After both teams had registered early points, the Na Mullai lads struck for a brace of goals and at the end of the first quarter led by 2-3 to 0-3 .Eire Og began the second quarter in whirlwind fashion and pushed the difference out to 10 points before Drumhowan put in a burst of their own and we reached half-time with the score Eire Og 3-9 Drumhowan 2-6. The third period saw both defences on top as attack after attack were repelled by both teams In that low scoring quarter both teams only added two points to their totals, so the final period began with the long existing six point difference still between the teams. Half-way through the fourth quarter Eire Og had increased their lead to seven points but they were to suffer two major setbacks within minutes with the loss of two of their most influential players through injury. This was the signal for Drumhowan to go incessantly on the attack and in fairness to the Geraldines after their initial attempts were repulsed they just re-grouped and launched another seri as of efforts to break down the stretched Eire Og defence and their breakthrough came in the 55th minute when they got a rather fortuitous goal, followed up by two well taken points. Smelling blood at this stage Drumhowan came in search of a goal as the game entered its final two minutes. They were rewarded in the final minute when another goal capped off their comeback Eire Og made one final attempt to push up for an equalizer but were halted in their tracks by the referee sounding the final-whistle with only seconds of added time played despite the fact that a series of injuries in the final quarter had.led to over four minutes of stoppages. So the season ended for our young Under 14s'on a final score of Drumhowan  4-12 Eire Og 3-14.We could look back on it as a game of "ifs and maybes" but the most important thing lads is that we move on from this with lessons learned that will lead to many winning occasions in the future. As the very encouraging words from a Drumhowan mentor post-game mentioned "don't spend the whole winter on play-stations etc. Take every opportunity to prepare for next season and erasing the pain that was in Saturday's after match dressing room. With only a couple of players over-age, 2015 is full of promise for this group. To Drumhowan, congratulations on your victory. Your will-to-win through the final period saw you over the line after a sporting contest.
 The Eire Og team on duty in the final was Stephen McCluskey,Caine Toal,Dillon McCaffrey,Kian McAree,Brendan Reilly,Leon McCabe,Donal Leonard,Jamie McMahon,Nathan McCabe,Robert Haynes(capt),Darragh Hamill,Ryan Corley,Kyle McAree,Michael Cadden,Gary Kerr,Caolan Gavan.
