Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes
August 12, 2014The Reserve Team -The Reserve team played Crematin in the final of the league last Friday evening, in a tight affair the Faughs looked to have taken control of the game late on, but as all GAA people will tell you a two point lead in injury time is a dangerous advantage. A very late injury time goal sealed a one point win for our neighbours Cremartin. Final Score Faughs 0-14 Cremartin 2-09. It was a bad finish to a campaign that looked so promising, two final defeats within the space of seven days has no doubt left a bad taste in the mouth, a big thanks to the team and management who put in a great effort during the year.
Minors - The Boys played their last league game against Sean's on Tuesday night (Check Website for result), they required a win to secure a Semi Final place in the league, before the fixture took place they lay in second place on 12 points.
Under 16 Boys -The boys now travel to play Tyholland in the first round of the Championship on Monday 18th of August at 7pm. Best of luck lads keep up the great work you have been doing all year they will finish the league with our final game is away to Toome on Thursday the 21st of August with a throw in time of 7.15pm.
Under 14 Girls - The Girls opened their Championship campaign in fine style on Monday night when they defeated a fancied Truagh on a score of Faughs 4-13 Traugh 2-10. This team is developing well under the watchful eye of Mickey Conlon and Darren McQuillan, with steady improvements in the girls' skills. Best on the night was Ellen Hamilton in Goals, Melissa Carr and Rachel Cannon in defence, Jodie McQuillan in Midfield and a star performance from Nicole Maguire upfront. Next up will be our second game against Carrick, an away fixture at 7pm on Monday 25th of August.
Under 14 Boys - The lads returned to league action on Tuesday the 12th of August at 7pm when they played Sean's in the league,(Check Web site for results). The team have qualified for the final which will take place on Saturday 6th of September, in which they will play either Ballybay or Sean's.
Under 12 Boys - Saturday saw a mixed day for the two under 12 teams, first up was the development team who played Latton. At half time, one would be forgiven for thinking the game was over as the young Faughs led 10 points to 1, but goals win juvenile games and a much transformed Latton scored six in the second half to run out three point winners. The senior team were next up as they took on Carrick. In a fiercely competitive and entertaining game, the boys pulled out all the stops to secure a five point win. They now advance to the Division One Shield Final against Inniskeen in a few weeks.
Summer Camp - This week sees the Juvenile invasion of St. Marys Park as everyone gets ready for the McMahons Centra Faughs Summer Camp on Wednesday to Saturday. With lots of coaching, craic and games, this always ranks as one of the children's favourite weeks of the year. If you are free why don't you come out to help, it literally takes an army of people to make this happen, so an extra pair of hands are always very welcome. All parents, supporters and club members are very welcome to attend the prize giving Bar-B-Que in Castleblayney College on Saturday afternoon.
Operation TransFAUGHSmation - Woohoo!!!!. We're back. People of mid Monaghan be warned, Operation TransFAUGHSmation is coming again with a programme of fun filled and specially tailored events designed to get you to a fitter and happier place. The award winning programme which is a proven winner with participants, will kick off with the registration night on Tuesday 26th of August in Our Lady's Secondary School Concert Hall from 7 to 9pm, which will be followed by the Information night on the 9th of September 2014. Regsitration fee is been held at €60 again this year and represents great value for a twelve week programme.
Stars in the Faughs Eyes - If you want an enjoyable evening out, then please book Saturday 20th of September into your Diary. The Club will hold a unique evening, when lots of different community groups will come together to put on a show that you will definitely remember. We will realise further details over the next few weeks.
Lotto - Last week's lotto numbers were 04, 20, 21 and 23. There was no winner of the jackpot with Phyliss Ryan and Catriona Green, Cairde being this weeks' lucky dip winners. You can buy your ticket each week of Sarah Mackin in the Glencarn Shopping centre on Friday/Saturday or of Aidan McElroy if you are out and about at the weekend.
Hard Luck - Saturday saw the end of the Monaghan Championship journey as their recent good run come to a tough end with a heavy defeat at the hands of Dublin in Croke Park. Well done to everyone on another good year, hopefully the learning curve will continue and that the county championship can help unearth another couple of up and coming county players to see our upward momentum continue.
Well done - This week saw another rising Faughs star appear on the playing fields of Croke Park as young Under 12 Player, Conall McHugh took part in the Go Games at half time. Conall who is well known to all Faughs members, demonstrated his wide range of skills to all 72,000 people, with some lovely passes using his favourite left foot. Well done Conall, hopefully you will get back to play in Croke Park again in the future with both the Club and County. Tweet
