McManus: Clones is "a special place"

Monaghan's Conor McManus is looking forward to another Ulster final run-out at Clones this Sunday.

The Anglo-Celt Cup holders haven't lost a championship match at St Tiernach's Park since the 2010 Ulster final defeat to Tyrone and have played at their home venue three times already in this year's provincial competition.

Little wonder their captain has such fond feelings for the venue!

"For anybody in Ulster, Clones is a fairly special place because it's been hosting Ulster championships for far longer than I can remember," the Clontibret clubman says in The Irish News. "It's always been at the centre of Ulster football.

"Any Ulster championship game is particularly tough. It's the toughest provincial championship there is. A lot of the defences are hard to break down; last year against Donegal was no different.

"It's well known that they make it very difficult. You just keep going, keep making runs and try to see what you can get. Neil McGee is one of the top defenders in the country, has been since he started playing."
