Half a century of service acknowledged and celebrated
September 30, 2008
There was a great air of celebration in Monaghan's Four Seasons Hotel on Saturday night last when the great and the good from a number of generations in the Currin club gathered to celebrate and acknowledge 50 years service as Treasurer of the club by Brian McCabe.
The celebration were marked by the presence of the Ard Stiurthoir Paraic Duffy who paid tribute to Brian for his outstanding service and underlined that his presence was a recognition by the GAA as a national organisation of Brian's outstanding achievement and the work he had done over the last 50 years. Former GAA president Sean McCague was also present and he descried Brian as a man of great vision, of great loyalty and a great GAA man, going on to say that it was on people like Brian McCabe that the clubs of this country and the Association itself was built.
Tributes were also paid by the chairman of Monaghan County Board John Connolly and Fr.Pat McHugh, a former vice-chairman of Monaghan County Board and a man who had worked closely with Brian on the acquisition of their new home when he was stationed in Currin parish. Following a series of glowing tributes Brian was the recipient of a number of presentations from the club, the players and Monaghan County Committee to acknowledge his outstanding service. His wife Phyllis was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Currin club secretary Martina O'Callaghan.
