Kindlon says Monaghan have improved
September 24, 2008
Monaghan captain Niamh Kindlon expects her side to give a much better account of themselves against Cork in Sunday's All-Ireland ladies football final than when the teams last met six months ago.
On that occasion, the four-in-a-row chasing Rebelettes romped to a 19-point National League win, but Kindlon stresses that Monaghan have come on in leaps and bounds since then and aren't going to Croke Park just to make up the numbers.
"I don't think you can read too much into a game that took place so long ago," he said.
"Since we played Cork in the league, a lot has changed for both teams, especially ourselves.
"We have won every competitive game that we have played since that Cork game and confidence in the squad is excellent. But while we are delighted to have got to the final for the first time in six years, we are not prepared to settle for that.
"We would not be properly satisfied unless we won the All-Ireland."
But Kindlon is under no illusions about the task which faces a Monaghan team that changed managers in mid-season.
"Cork are a phenomenal side and they deserve all that they have achieved over the last four years. They have a talented bunch of players and they have the appetite to keep coming back."
