Sean Kelly as a selector too.
Does seem like theres been a waste of 2-3 months there tho seeing as he was mentioned as favourite from august.
Anyways, with that put to bed now we can all look forward to the championship.

We need to put this whole process to the back of our minds and concentrate on next years championship. Eamonn certainly has a talented group of players at his disposal and the way the Leinster championship has been recently, a victory over the Dubs would definitely put us in a good position to win Leinster.

Anyone know when will his selectors be announced?

Men_of_49 well said I'm not sure when they will be announced but rumour has it that Donal Curtis and Colm Brady will be selected.

Best of luck to EOB, he's going to need it.
Surely he's knows the co board wanted to offer the job to Dempsey, the players know it which again is a poor position to start from.
I would be very worried about our progress under EOB, hope I'm proved wrong. He's too nice a guy and being a selector in 96 /99 is a long way from manager in 09.
I think it's a massive mistake, in my opinion the older players from 2001 will have no respect for EOB and this will quickly pass down through the younger ones.
We needed a young man manager with smart ideas and managerial success. Kelly or Micko should have been offered the job.
Winning one Inter title is not a good enough for me and dont come back with selector rubbish stuff, there were men in the stands who had more say on picking the teams from 96 to 03 than EOB.

The co board should be ashamed of themselves during the process. EOB should have been appointed 3 months ago to arrange training and trials, now he has to wait till Jan. Dublin will beat Meath out the gate next year.

You might very well be right in what you say but why always be so negative. Lets get behind him and the team. He has to start somewhere. I agree with you that bothe he and Dempsey have been treated disgracefully. This should have been dealt with by end August. With the closed season (which I don't agree with for training) now in, it will be difficult for him to formulate a team and a plan until the O'Byrne cup starts. While in general the winner of the O'B cup has very little to say about the destination of honours later in the Season I still think he should have a go at it to get the lads into the habit of winning.

I think trials can be held during the closed season, its just training that's not permitted.

Eamon might surprise a few people. A quite deep man but thinks a lot about the game and the way it should be played. I think his good manners will suit the players. I don't expect much confrontation or shouting in the dressing room. He will respect the panel he picks and will win their respect if he gets off to a good start. His backroom staff is key to a successful term. Best of luck.

Ard Ri I dont get pleasure out of being negative and I hope Im proved wrong, but if it was a business would u give the job to second best person, from a poor list. The Co Board had 4 months to get the right man and failed and what's worse the whole of meath now know this.
The Co Board have given EOB a hospital pass with also not being able to get his team together in Sept/Oct for trails/gym programmes etc and to make them feel comfortable with how EOB will work.

We all heard about 10 names but for some strange reason the Co Board had only 2 runners in EOB & Dempsey. They should be ashamed of themselves and they have risked EOB's name and worse the respect that Meath teams earned the hard way.

We can all put our heads in the sand which is what u seem to be doing by telling me to just support the team, but for the future of Meath gaa something has to be done to sort out the mess the co board are in. They should be responsible for Admin and Planning and leave the football calls to football men with vision.
Not impressed with EOB in the last four months, he should have walked away after Dempsey went to the press.
The Tyrone/Dublin/Galway/Mayo/Armagh/Derry players will all have individual training programs for Nov/Dec.. doesnt effect the Cork/Kerry players as they dont have to peak till Aug, can only imagine what the Meath lads are at and there's no weights in the Palace or Solar!!!!

Give the man a chance he has a good cv .Brought rathkenny a small club to senior football think he had a spell i think with walterstown, selector under boylan, not a bad cv .

Lads, let me start by saying I wouldnt have picked EOB.However he is now the man.He is entitled to a run at it.He should be supported in every way possible, and I wish him the best of luck.Playing Dublin in the first round of the championship is the ideal start for a new man because there is no more unifying force in Meath Football than a tilt at our neighbours, and unity is what we need now more than ever.
As for the manner of EOB`s appointment, all I can say is I hope the way it was handled is reflected when it comes re-electing Officers for next year.We need a change.............not more of the same.Sadly I dont think we`ll see much as once again politics will be played with the future of Meath GAA.

Sorry POLECAT but it is a nothing CV. We brought in a manager who's team were in a relegation play-off! And don't tell me he did great to get rathkenny to senior!! You only have to look at what Tony Kearney did with Wolfe Tones!! To me... thats a better manager!
For once I have to agree with Northmeathman!! This is a disaster of an appointment IMO!! And I have already lost a bit of respect for a man who was pretty much slapped around by the CO board but he still stayed around for the job!
I think that the CO board have helped meath football take another giant step backwards with their actions this year! We are dangerously heading towards being a Tommy Murphy type team!!

Next appointment to be made should be a new CO Board!

To finish off, I just want to say that this is not a shot at Eamonn O Brien. I dont know the man personally and I wish him the best of luck for the year ahead!! But I think he has a lot to do to win the respect of us vultures and also the some of those players in the Meath set-up who think they are bigger that the whole county!! Meath GAA R.I.P.

NorthMeathman while I have already stated that I agree with you in many of the matters mentioned, e.g. being second choice, I think you are being negative for the sake of being negative and it indeed does seem to me that you derive particular pleasure from being negative. You never miss a chance to have a go at somebody just so that you can say "I told you so". You are like Eamon Dunphy who always wants to see what's going wrong just so he can have a go at someone. Remember he had a go at Eoin Hand, Jack Charlton, Mick McCarthy, Staunton and now this week he is having a go at Trapatoni (not sure if the spelling is right). You also have had a go at all and sundry over the past few years. It would make you sick if Eamon had a good run in the league, give you a coronary if he beat the Dubs and God forbid that he wins the AI or I would loose you forever as a sparring partner. Eamon O'Brien might not be the best canditate, is defiantly second choice and might be a complete failure at the job. However, I for one am giving him my complete support and loyalty. That position will not change until Meath are out of the championship in 2009. That's the least any loyal Meath fan can do. At that stage I will review whether I want him for another year or not.

JonnieG you too might be right in you comments but Eamon is now the new Meath Manager. Why don't you and NMM climb down from your ivory towers and join the rest of the genuine Meath fans in supporting him and give the man a chance. For the record I do know him personally. I list him among my friends and went to school with him. However that is not the reason I support him. I also gave my support to Colm Coyle even though I don't know him and couldn't stand his attitude as a player.

JonnieG, Kearney made it clear from an early stage that he was not intersted in managing Meath. While I agree with you that his CV is a lot more impressive than EOB, Eamonn still has a decent record. He has played at the highest level and served as a selector under one of the greatest managers of all time.

Some people do not give him enough credit for what he has achieved with Rathkenny. When he took charge of them they were a poor intermediate team struggling to battle against relegation and within two years he brought them to a senior quarter final. This year they were drawn in a very difficult group in which any club would find tough. With the exeption of the O' Mahoneys game, Rathkenny put up good performances against the other teams.

There is going back now, he is the manager and everyone should get behind the team regardless of whether his CV is good enough or not.

Jonnieg He was a selector under boylan that is a great cv and rathkenny are a small club and where in a tough group. And for the record your county board chairman is a gentleman and well liked in the county so he be staying another while.
