MFC Div 1: Na Fianna overcome Dunboyne in thriller

Na Fianna: 3-10 St Peter's, Dunboyne: 2-12

Na Fianna and St Peter's, Dunboyne served up an enthralling game of football in Dunganny on Thursday night in a game played at a blistering pace throughout.

Na Fianna took command in the first half, with an early Shane Walsh goal setting them on their way. He also hit three points while David Maher contributed well with a lovely long range point. Sean Martin was also on target as Na Fianna held a 2-05 to 1-03 half time lead.

Dunboyne started strongly in the second half with a couple of early points. Na Fianna came back with a Walsh point but Dunboyne hit a purple patch to overcome the deficit and open up a four point lead with ten minutes remaining.

Na Fianna showed their resilience led by Oisin McCloskey who netted an all important goal. Further points from Kean Flynn, Shane Walsh and Jack McNally put Na Fianna two up in injury time and from there they weathered the Dunboyne onslaught to finish one point winners.

Na Fianna advance to a second Delaney Cup final in a row, where they will face an in-form Ratoath side, who inflicted a heavy defeat on Na Fianna in Round one.

Na Fianna had strong performances from Oisin McCloskey, Stephen Slevin, Luke Kelly, Oran Smullen, Kean Flynn and Jack McNally.
