Davy Lynch gains possession for St Michaels against Trim in the Junior C FC game played at Athboy.

St. Michaels 5-17, Trim 1-06

St. Michaels maintained their unbeaten start to the junior C championship with this 23 point victory over a hapless Trim side in a constant downpour in Athboy on Monday evening.

The winners put in a devastating attacking performance, cutting through the Trim defence at will with veteran Daithí Regan and his prodigy Davy Lynch notching up 4-7 between them.

Trim got the opening point in the sixth minute however a Ben Tobin point got the wheels in motion for St. Michaels and Regan put 1-1 on the board in a two minute spell. Points followed from Shane McCormack, Anthony Briody & Regan before Davy Lynch opened his account with a point on 23 minutes after good work by Tobin, Lynch blasted to the net 30 seconds later for a 2-7 to 0-5 lead. Four minutes later Regan was on target for his second major to give his side a 3-7 to 0-5 interval lead.

The opening 5 minutes of the second half yielded 5 unanswered points from St. Michaels as Regan, Johnny Reilly, Tommy Moriarty and Rory O'Driscoll all registered scores. St. Michaels were now dominating every area of the field and their defence was particularly impressive holding their opponents to just 2 second half scores which included a goal in the 45th minute. St. Michaels emptied their bench and substitute Ben Farrell added 1-1 before referee Peter O'Halloran blew his long whistle much to the relief of the 30 saturated players on the pitch.
