St. Michaels Ronan Cassidy has his eye on the Dunderry goal

St. Michaels 2-13, Dunderry 0-07

St. Michaels sauntered to a 12 point victory over a Dunderry side that never got out of the starting blocks on their home pitch on Saturday evening last. The hosts were short their Meath junior contingent as was St. Michaels who lined out without the services of Meath junior Jamie Reilly and the injured Ciaran Lynch and the unavailable Ronan Lynch & Oran Meehan.

The visitors opened the scoring with a point from Felim O'Reilly after 9 minutes and points from Shane McDonnell (0-2) Ben Tobin (0-1) and Ronan Cassidy (0-1) completed the first half scoring in what was a dour opening half with both sides guilty of some wayward shooting but worse for the home side was the fact that they didn't get on the scoresheet until the 25th minute for their only point of the half. St. Michaels led by 0-5 to 0-1 at the break.

By the 12th minute of the second half St. Michaels advantage had gone into double figures as they had built up a 1-9 to 0-1 lead following points from McDonnell and Davy Lynch. Ray Reilly pounced on a loose ball after the Dunderry 'keeper pulled off a great save from Lynch. Peter O'Connell, Shane McCormack and the O'Reilly brothers Felim & J.B were giving St. Michaels a great platform around the middle third with clean fielding and distribution to their inside forwards of Ray Reilly Ben Tobin and Ronan Cassidy who all tried hard throughout. Sam Briody, Mark Stafford and Matthew Halpin were solid in defence in dealing with anything Dunderry threw at them.

Substitute Johnny Reilly was only a couple of minutes on the pitch when he broke through the home defence to fire home to the back of the net on 46 minutes. Dunderry to their credit kept plugging away with six second half points but the winners had the last say when top scorer on the day Shane McDonnell popped over two points in the dying minutes for a comfortable 12 point victory.
