The winning Wolfe Tones Under 17 squad

Wolfe Tones 3-9 Dunderry 1-4

Bhí bua iontach ag foireann Bhulf Tón in aghaidh Dún Doire. Bhí na cúlaithe thar barr in aghaidh foireann an láidir i nDún Doire agus fuair na tosaithe na scóranna sa chead leath a chuir an fhoireann ar shlí an teidil.

Wolfe Tones had a convincing win against a very fancied Dunderry side in this Division 4 decider played in ideal conditions at Dunganny.

Dunderry opened the scoring with a pointed free inside 2 minutes. Ben Lowe replied for the Tones with a point from a free a minute later. Aaron Tolan put the Tones ahead with a point from play shortly afterwards and this was a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Tones were boosted by a wonderful Tom Gavigan goal after 7 minutes when he collected an Evan Corrigan cross and blasted to the net. Both teams registered 2 wides before Oisín Corrigan pointed for the Tones to open up a 1  03 to 0  01 lead for the Gibbstown Kilberry outfit.  Dunderry goaled shortly afterwards to narrow the deficit but Tones responded well adding 3 points without reply from Evan Corrigan (2) and Oisin Martin. Dunderry replied with a point from a free but Tones finished the half with a pointed free and a goal both from Ben Lowe. This goal was a crucial score which left the opposition with a mountain to climb.

Half time score Wolfe Tones 2-7 Dunderry 1-2.

Dunderry needed a good start to the second half and while they had possession ferocious tackling from the Tones defenders meant they couldn't capitalise and Tones who played brilliant attacking football from deep in their own defence were the team who got the significant scores in the 3rd quarter. Peter Carroll notched a point before Oisín Corrigan was fouled as he threatened goal.

Ben Lowe brilliantly dispatched the resultant penalty to leave the scores Wolfe Tones leading 3 08 to 1  02 after 39 minutes. Dunderry rallied and added 2 points from play but would fail to score for the rest of the game while Evan Corrigan completed the Tones tally with a point in the 47th minute. Dunderry were now looking for goals and wave after wave of attack was repelled by the Tones defence. Keeper Darragh Kenny made a very fine save during this period. The game petered out thereafter with the outcome inevitable and Tones supporters celebrated when the final whistle was blown after 8 minutes of added time.

This was a great team victory for the Tones who have shown steady improvement over the course of this competition. Having lost to Carnaross Moynalty in the league stages (they overturned that result in the semi-final) and also having lost to Dunderry they knew a good performance was needed if they were to lift the title and they set about their task with great focus.

Darragh Kenny was rock solid in goals while the full back line played exceptionally well. Laochra O Fionnagain cut out many Dunderry attacks with his reading of the game while the sticky Seán Kendall followed his man all over the pitch. Gearóid O Brien excelled in the last quarter when Dunderry were looking for goals. Rowan Murray was a rock at centre back ably supported by wing backs Peter Carroll and Mark Mc Fadden who played a captain's part winning lots of breaks and always using the ball to good effect.

The midfield partnership of Aaron Tolan and Rioghan Mac Ghinneartaí worked tirelessly with Aaron driving forward to good effect while Rioghan made a number of brilliant catches. Oisín Martin at centre forward pulled the strings with some wonderfully measured passes while the strong running Tom Gavigan was always a threat. Patrick Colwell used his pace to good effect carrying the ball from defence to attack on numerous occasions. The inside line were devastating at times.

Evan Corrigan cut through on numerous occasions, Oisín Corrigan was a brilliant target man with Ben Lowe in lethal form when presented with scoring opportunities.

Full credit to manager Cathal O Bric ably assisted by Micky Mc Fadden, Darragh Feeney and Alan Corrigan for preparing the team so well.
