Wolfe Tones 1-12 Skryne 0-16

Visitors Skryne held on for a win on the narrowest of margins on an ideal night for football in Kilberry.

The opening half saw some great scores taken by both teams with Skryne leading by 0-11 to Tones 0-7 at half time, all scores having come from play. Tones opened brightly and led by 3 points after 8 minutes thanks to a fine opening point from Gary Mc Fadden and 2 from Davy O Neill.

However Skryne came to life and added 5 without reply. Gary Mc Fadden steadied the Tones with his second point but Skryne had the bit between their teeth and would add 6 more points before the interval with Paddy Caffrey, Padraic Diamond and Eanna O Kelly Lynch all adding points for the home team. Sean Moriarty had a goal chance for the Tones having made a charge up field but was unlucky to drag his attempt narrowly wide.

Tones started the second half in determined fashion and Cian O Neill and Eanna O Kelly Lynch notched a point each to narrow the gap to two points. However this was a false dawn as Skryne took over again and added 5 without reply and seemed to be in complete control on a 0-16 to 0-9 score line.

Showing good spirit Tones rallied and substitute Thomas Blaney scored a fine point before converting a penalty to leave Tones trailing by 3 points as the game entered the closing minutes. Piling on the pressure the home side laid siege to the Skryne goals and were rewarded with points from Alan Callaghan and Thomas Blaney but could not get the equaliser before referee Paul Mooney blew the final whistle.
