FL Div 4: Best possible start for Kilmainhamwood

February 20, 2017

Kilmainhamwood's Stephen Kiernan

Kilmainhamwood 3-12 St Brigids 1-10

Kilmainhamwood got off to the best possible start to their new league campaign with an eight-point victory away from home over St Brigids.

The Wood took three points to one lead early on with some exquisite points from Steven Kiernan and David Russell. Kiernan scored the Woods first goal punching the ball passed the Bridgids keeper after an excellent pass from Paul Carolan. The Wood continued to dominate the half with some superb scores from Paddy Carolan and Paul Carolan before David Russell rattled the net with a superb low finish. The Brigids scored an excellent goal soon after but also saw themselves reduced to fourteen men after a kick on Micheal Shankey left the wood man grimacing in pain. The first half ended with Kilmianhamwood leading 2-9 to 1-6.

Playing against the wind in the second half the Wood showed good defensive composer as Andy Farrelly intercepted ball after ball in defence and Harry Corbally dictated the play around the centre of the field. The game was put to bed mid-way through the second half when Cathal Bennett's scuffed effort was fumbled into the net by the unfortunate St Brigids goal keeper.

Best for Kilmainhamwood were Steven Kiernan and David Russell in the forwards, Harry Corbally at mid-field and Andy Farrelly and Ronald Owens in defence.

Next for Kilmainhamwood is Clann na Gael in Athboy on Saturday the 25th of February.
