February 20, 2017

Simonstown's Sean Tobin

St Peters Dunboyne 2-10 Simonstown Gaels 2-20

This game was a rematch of the thrilling SFC quater final which took place on the 10th of September 2016. The game began in a ferocious pace with Nathan O'Brien opening the scoring and Dunboyne responding quickly. The first half was very tight with both teams exchanging scores throughout. Simonstown's Shane Barry and Nathan O'Brien were superb during the first half with Barry bossing midfield and scoring 4 magnificent points in the game. Nathan O'Brien's trickery was perplexing the Dunboyne defenders and he tallied 2 points during a tight first half. Micky Dunne was the danger man for Dunboyne scoring 2 point and creating the Dunboyne goal. His presence and strength caused many headaches for the Simonstown back line in the first half. The first half ended with a Stephen O'Reilly and a Padraig Mckeever point. Score at the end of an entertaining first half was Dunboyne 1-6 (9) Simonstown 0-12 (12).

The second half began with Simonstown scoring 2 quick points and Dunboyne answering with a goal leaving the score 2-6 Dunboyne 0-14 Simonstown. During the goal celebrations Dunboyne's target man Mickey Dunne got sent off for taunting and wrestling goalkeeper Robbie Burlingham to the ground. The loss of Micky Dunne proved significant with Dunboyne only scoring 4 points in the remaining 25 minutes. However 4 minutes later Simonstown received a red card of their own when Shane Gallagher got sent off for allegedly striking an opponent. With 15 minutes remaining the scores were Simonstown 0-16 Dunboyne 2-7. Simonstown's 14 men responded better to their own sending off and quickly scored a goal through their captain Padraig McKeever. The O'Brien brothers scored points leaving 7 points points between the sides. Simonstown dominated the final quater and points from Podge McKeever, Nicky O'Brien and a well taken goal by an impressive Séan Tobin left no doubt about the result. Best for Simonstown Nathan O'Brien, Joe Lyons, Shane Barry, Séan Tobin, Padraig McKeever and Conor Sheridan.
