Drumconrath's Jamie Myles

Drumconrath 1-13 Boardsmill 1-3

Drumconraths good start to 2017 continued on their return to Division 4 for the 1st time since promotion was gained in 2012 with this win over Boardsmill on Sunday morning.

With both midfielders missing Alan McEvoy through injury and Sean McMahon with work commitments Drums started a new partnership with Tomas Conlon and Christopher Tighe.

Daniel Byrne got Drums off the mark with an early free and then good team work saw Paul Tighe find the net on 3 minutes to give Drumconrath the start they where looking for.

Boardsmill did add a point on 4 minutes but further points from Chris Tighe and Two Pado Farrelly free's had the home side 1-4 to 0-1 ahead.

A Boardsmill goal on 12 minutes narrowed the gap to 3 points but Drumconrath responded well as Paul Tighe, Jamie Myles and a Byrne free on 20 minutes restored the margin.

Drumconrath added no further scores for the half as Boardsmill came more into the game but the visitors added just one further point as the sides retired Drums 1-7 to 1-2 ahead. They sides had shared 8 wides in the half.

Drumconrath enjoyed a good start to the 2nd half as points from Byrne (2) Myles and Farrelly pushed them 9 points to the good as the 3rd quarter ended.

Boardsmill added a free on a rare attack but Drumconrath finished out the game with points from Paul Tighe and Byrne to safely secure the points.

Jamie Myles enjoyed a good outing for Drumconrath and Paul Tighe had his best showing since returning from Australia last Autumn.

Boardsmill Report

Boardsmill 1-3  Drumconrath 1-13

Boardsmill opened their football league campaign with an away trip to North Meath to take on Drumconrath, on an overcast Sunday morning. It was the men from North Meath who started brightest as they opened up a five point lead on Boardsmill before Donal Flattery got the opening score for the Mill Men as he sliced a point from the outside of his boot from roughly forty yards. Drumconrath tagged on another point before Keith Hamilton kicked a 45 in which the drums keeper miss controlled and presented a goal chance for Eric Cribbin, which he graciously accepted with a fisted effort. After the goal the hosts added three points to restore their dominance on the scoreboard, but they did not score for the last ten minutes of the first half as a result of Boardsmills good defending which saw the away side come back into the match. Although the men in blue and white were coming into the match before half time they did not capitalise on this as they only scored another point through another Donal Flattery "worldie". This left the halftime score reading 1-8 to 1-2 in favour of Drumconrath.

Just like the first half it was the drums who started brightest as they scored the first three points of the second half and effectively killed off the game. Keith Hamilton registered Boardsmills solidary score in the second half from a placed ball and although the away team were putting on the pressure they were met with a resolute defence from the home team who were holding firm while under siege. With Boardsmill pushing forward they were caught by Drumconrath on three separate counter attacks which all yielded points to leave the fulltime score 1-13 to 1-3 in favour of the home team. In what was a disappointing result after a long journey for Boardsmill, it was great to see Danny Dixon, Karl flood and Jack McGee make their competitive football league debuts for the club. Boardsmill are up against Clonard next Sunday February 26th in the league and all support is welcome.
