The death has occurred of Noel Smyth of Batterstown who was a brother of the late Brian Smyth of Meath 1949 All-Ireland winning fame.
Batterstown native Noel lined out at right half-forward on the Skryne team that captured Meath SFC honours in 1954. He scored a point in that year's 1-5 to 0-4 final victory over Kells Harps.
His son Fergus is a well-known hurling referee while another son, Enda, has also played a prominent role in the GAA at club and County Board level.
Predeceased by his wife Kathleen, we extend our sympathies to Noel's sons Fergus, Enda, Daragh and Fionan and extended family.
A minute's silence was observed prior to yesterday's Meath IFC final in memory of Noel and 1957 All-Ireland winning Meath minor captain Brendan Cahill.
Funeral arrangements:
Reposing at his home from 5 o'c. until 9 o'c. today (Monday) and from 1.30 o'c. until 5 o'c. tomorrow (Tuesday). Removal at 6 o'c. arriving at the Church of the Assumption, Batterstown at 6.30 o'c. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 12 o'c. followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
