FL Div 3/4 Play off: Kilmainham keep Division 3 status

Kilmainham's Mickey Newman

Kilmainham made sure of Division 3 football next season with this eight point win over Ballivor in the Division 3/4 play off game in wet and sloppy conditions at Athboy.

Kilmainham 1-14 Ballivor 0-9

The winners finished third from bottom in Division 3 while Ballivor finished third from top in Division 4.

The team in Black and Red led at the break 1-7 to 0-5. County star Mickey Newman got the goal from the penalty spot after Freddie Newman was fouled in the small square. The Newman's accounted for all of Kilmainham's first half tally, Mickey 1-5, Freddie 0-2, Harry 0-1.

Scores from the Newman's Freddie (2) and Mickey (4) in the second half made sure of survival for Kilmainham. Goalkeeper Trevor Lynch came to their rescue in the 24th minute when producing a fine save from a Ballivor penalty.
