Seneschalstown's Siobhan Sheridan

Seneschalstown 2-10 Royal Gaels 2-7

Seneschalstown and Royal Gaels served up and entertaining and exciting final round Coca Cola Junior C group game played in St Mary's, Donore on Thursday evening.

The girls from Dunshaughlin, fielding a young team, were quick out of the blocks and had the ball in the net inside the first minute from a deflected shot and by the fifth minute had 2-01 on the board. It wasn't looking good for the Furze Girls at this stage as the visitors were attacking in waves and once again Linda Quinn between the sticks was having another fine game.

As the half wore on, the Seneschalstown girls began to find their feet and Emer Smith opened their account in the twelfth minute. Royal Gaels increased the lead back to seven on fifteen minutes. Smith added a second point on eighteen minutes and the Furze Girls were gaining the upper hand around the middle of the field but wasted a few chances. The Seneschalstown outfit got a major boost on twenty-three minutes when young star Kelly Smith did well to recycle possession before striking a fine goal.

Things got even better two minutes later when Lucinda Healy broke away from her opponent to score a second goal drawing the sides level and a minute later the same player put the team in blue and yellow in front. Emer Smith added her third point of the half to leave the HT score at 2-04 to 2-02 in favour of Seneschalstown.

On the resumption, Emer Smith added to her tally in the opening minute and tagged on further points in the thirty seventh and thirty ninth minutes. The next three scores all came from the Royal Gaels outfit, and the game was back in the melting pot. Smith added further to her tally with three points in a five-minute spell and Laura Burke then saw her shot come back off the post and cleared to safety.

Seneschalstown had a let off in the fifty fifth minute when a Gaels player did superbly to get into the clear but saw her shot rise high over the bar and this was followed up a minute later by another point for the visitors who were now pushing hard for that equalising goal but some excellent tackling and blocking prevented this happening.

In the end the experience of the Seneschalstown team came through over a gallant Royal Gaels outfit in a game played in a great spirit by both sides. Credit to both teams for their efforts. Best for Seneschalstown were Emer Smith whose radar was very finely tuned, Grace Cahalane and Eve Loughran while the game was notable for the return to action of Siobhán Sheridan.
