ST. MICHAELS MATCH REPORT

St. Michaels 0-8, Nobber 3-11

This local derby will not live long in the memory of the die hard St. Michaels supporters who turned up to watch this match in Carlanstown on Saturday evening last.

A superior Nobber side had it all their own way from the off, however the home side had a reasonable quota of possession but were unable to make it count on the scoreboard but having said that, in mitigation, St. Michaels were without several of their regulars through injury etc. The second half of this match was a tight affair, but the same could not be said of the opening half as Nobber set out their stall straight from the throw-in and had built up a 1-1 on the scoreboard after just six minutes play, this scoring trend continued unabated until referee Peter Sheridan blew the half time whistle with Nobber leading by 2-7 to 0-2, the St. Michaels scores coming from Shane McDonnell and a Ciaran Lynch free.

McDonnell and Lynch got the second half underway with a point apiece in the opening three minutes, however Nobber hit back with a point on 35 minutes and they rattled the back of the net for the third time 5 minutes later to go 3-8 to 0-4 in front. St. Michaels battled on as Nobber began to empty their bench, however scores were hard to come by as their forwards were starved of possession. Matthew Halpin 0-2, McDonnell and Ciaran Lynch 0-1 each was the only reward for the efforts put in by their team-mates. Nobber finished out the game with a further 3 points for a comfortable 12 point victory.
