Ladies: Win for Blackhall Gaels

May 30, 2016

Blackhall Gaels 2-13 Skryne 2-7

You can't beat that winning feeling! Winning a match reminds players why they put their bodies through hell, why they wolf down dinner in the car on the way from work, why they always miss occasions.

The pure rush that comes from winning makes it all worth it. The match on Wednesday served as a timely reminder of all that. With championship just around the corner, the Ladies knew that they needed to take all of the potential they've been showing throughout the year and convert it into a victory. And what a victory it was!

The score alone is impressive enough- it's hard to lose when you've scored 2-13. What makes this even sweeter is that it came from 8 different scorers (including Lorraine Devaney, who showed the true meaning of 'impact sub').

This was a match that Blackhall played from start to finish, no mean feat with depleted numbers. They started solidly and built on it throughout the match, gaining confidence and determination. Skryne took nothing lying down, and both of their well-worked goals gave the speedy team a serious lift, making them look quite dangerous. However, Blackhall were able to weather the storm each time, answering the goals with scores of their own. Leona Nestor adapted to her new position perfectly, providing plenty of pace and quick thinking in the forwards and giving the rest of our scorers room to do what they do best.

The support play all over the pitch was phenomenal and really made the difference in the end. Kate Murphy kept her backs in line as usual, leading by example as she does. Claire Burke must have run a marathon by the end of the match, even getting close to scoring a point! The midfield link play couldn't have been better. From 1 to 16, every player busted herself to beat her marker and push herself out of the comfort zone in order to get this win, and it seems unlikely that any of them regretted it for a second. Final score Blackhall 2-13, Skryne 2-7.
