April 30, 2016

Na Fianna's Shane Walsh

Na Fianna: 2-13

Skryne: 1-09

Na Fianna progressed to the Minor FL Division 1 Final with a hard fought win over Skryne in Enfield on Friday evening.

Shane Walsh led the Na Fianna charge in the opening ten minutes as he hit 1-02 with the Tara side only scoring 0-1. Skryne did then respond with a goal to only trail by 1-03 to 1-01 in a game where both sides served up great attacking football. Jack McNally curled a great effort over from play along with a converted free while Walsh was on target with two frees as Na Fianna held the advantage with a 1-06 to 1-04 half time lead.

Strong defensive play was evident in the second half as Na Fianna bravely restricted the Skryne men to five points. Will Flynn popped over a point early in the half while Ethan Devine and Shane Walsh both added converted frees. Na Fianna lost Daniel Devine to a black card midway through the half but this did not faze the rest of the team who battled all the way. It was only when Ethan Devine netted a penalty with ten minutes remaining that Na Fianna could see the finish line and Devine followed the penalty with a great point from play to put Na Fianna eight up.

Skryne to their credit never gave up and attacked the Na Fianna goals where great defending led by Owen McDonnell, Ronan Byrne and Ciaran Holton kept them out as Na Fianna saw the game out much to the delight of the large crowd in attendance.

Na Fianna had great displays from Ciaran Holton, Owen McDonnell, Ronan Byrne, Will & Kean Flynn and Shane Walsh.
