Moylagh 1-10 Kilmainhamwood 3-18
Kilmainhamwood made their second trip of the year over to Moylagh, but this time around attention turned to the 5th round of the league.
Kilmainhamwood knew a win was vital to continue their push for promotion, and came out of the blocks at a surging pace. Their first three efforts went wide, before a high ball in from David Russell to the influential Paddy Carolan allowed a sweet lay off to Paul Carolan, who continued his rich vein of goal scoring form and coolly slotted by the Moylagh keeper. Further scores from Paddy C, and two Kiernan frees, put the 'Wood 1-03 to the good with 15 minutes gone.
Moylagh then got to grips with the game and registered their first via a free, followed up another two scores from play, before a second Paddy C point and a first for Paul Carolan restored the 'Wood's six point advantage. Moylagh to their credit kept applying the pressure to a strong Kilmainahmwood defence, but they held off the home side, and only managed two further scores before the break, one from a free and another from play. But the 'Wood's attack kept the scoreboard ticking over with two Kiernan points and one each from Sean Mulligan and Michael Shankey, to leave Kilmainhamwood seven to the good at half time, 1-09 to 0-05.
Kilmainhamwood started the second half as they did the first and had another unanswered 1-03 registered before Moylagh could respond, one Kiernan free and two Paddy C points from play. Paddy C was again involved in the 'Wood's second goal, when a brilliant dummy allowed him to lay it off to David Russell, who in return gave the 'Wood their second of the match. Moylagh responded with their first two of the second half, one from a free and another from play. Before Russell got his first point from play and centre forward Michael Shankey was through one on one with the Moylagh keeper, to provide a sublime finish and give the visitors their third of the game.
Two further points, another Kiernan free and a third for Paul Carolan, looked like the game was put beyond reasonable doubt, but Moylagh enjoyed a ten minute spell of possession where they registered three unanswered points, and a mistake by the 'Wood defence allowed a deflected ball off full back Padraig Barber, to give Moylagh their first and only goal of the match. But two Kiernan points from play and a fourth from Paddy C, gave Kilmainahmwood a fourteen point win, on a score line of 3-18 to 1-10.
This was a great team effort put in by everyone from the keeper right up the pitch to the corner forwards, the 'Wood's attention now turns to this Saturday when they face table toppers St. Vincent's at home, throw-in at 6.30pm.
