Oldcastle 1-12 Kilmainham 1-03
Oldcastle got their league campaign off to a good start with a strong win against Kilmainham at home.
It was CJ Healy who got Oldcastle's scoring off the mark within the opening play. Oldcastle were beginning to dominate but struggling to convert and Kilmainham hit back with a point of their own after 8 minutes.
It was another ten minutes before any score and again it was Kilmainham who were on target with a converted penalty.
Oldcastle proved the better side for the remaining minutes in the second quarter adding another seven points with scores from Healy, Sean Maxwell, Rory McHugh and a 45 from Stephen Tierney. Oldcastle had a good advantage heading into the break with a four point lead.
Kilmainham hit over the first of the second half but this was as close as they got to reducing the deficit as Oldcastle provided a strong second half display adding another 1-4. Healy adding 1-1 to his tally, along with Tierney adding a further two to his and Rahill converting one.

Kilmainham suffered their first defeat of the 2016 league when they were well beaten by a very strong Oldcastle outfit at Millbrook on Friday night. Even without the services of former Meath county star Paddy Gilsnean who was carried off after suffering a serious knee injury only after 10 minutes.
With the aid of the breeze Oldcastle led 0-8 to 1-1 at half time. Kilmainham's goal was a converted penalty from Davy Farnan.
Oldcastle who registered 1-4 against the wind in the second half ran out comfortable winners.
