Boardsmill 3-9 Summerhill 3-6
An enthralling game warmed the hearts and hands of all present in Dunganny on a cold Saturday afternoon. Boardsmill and Summerhill renewed their rivalry at u15 level in a terrific battle that was only decided in the last 10 minutes of extra time.
Summerhill started the better and coasted into a 1.02 lead on the back of a sparkling 10 minutes from Sopia Payne. Indeed their application in that period served them well throughout normal time where they were the hungrier team . That said this group of Boardsmill girls are nothing if not resilient and they fought back over the next 10 minutes to level the scores through Caroline Quinn 1.01 and Beverley Lynch 0.1.
Summerhill nudged ahead from a close range free before Kate Kelly shot to the Summerhill net on 26 minutes after some excellent recycling of the ball in front of the Summerhill posts. Grace Ennis pointed for Summerhill on 28 minutes to leave the minimum between the sides at half time.
The second period saw Ennis carry on where she finished the first half when her shot found the back of Aoife Murray's net . Boardsmill rallied again with a brace of free's from Quinn and an excellent point from Molly Fagan . The eventual winners then saw Beverely Lynch scythe through the Summerhill defence to strike low and hard to the net. Boardsmill led by 4 and must have thought they were set fair for the cup. Sophia Payne thought otherwise and netted after a fine pass placed her inside the Boardsmill defence. She tagged on a point on 50 minutes to level the scores. Lynch was withdrawn injured to be replaced by Amelia Williams on 59 minutes but Sarah Powderly soon signaled the end of an enthralling game with the sides level.
Some confusion ensued when Powderly wasn't available to officiate extra time but the sides eventually lined out after a short delay. Ennis once again pointed for Summerhill with what turned out to be their last score of the game . Lynch replied before having to retire again and the second extra period saw the teams start level again at 3.06 each.
Boardsmill's leaders then grabbed the initiative, led by a storming last ten from centre back Kim Garrigan . Rachel Troy who had been excellent throughout , together with Quinn , Hannah Kealey and the ever dependable Amanda Kennedy drove their team home with 3 unanswered points from the boots of Megan Loughran , Quinn and Amber Cooke-Allen.
It has been a brilliant year for this group and their mentors Eamon Murray and Brian Troy . They added the u15 title to the u16 championship won earlier this year and their runners position from the Junior B Final in October.
Boardsmill were best served by Amanda Kenendy who together with Jessica Ryall and Kim Garrigan formed a formidable half back line. Quinn , Troy, Lynch , Kealey and Niamh Newman were excellent while Emma Mitchell got through a lot of good work for the winners .
