November 16, 2015

Caomhin O'Griofa - Clann Na nGael

Clann na nGael 2-15 Navan O'Mahonys 4-8

Clann na  nGael booked their place in the B U21 Hurling final with this thrilling one point win over Navan O'Mahonys Sunday. The game was moved to Grangegodden after most pitches in the County were deemed unplayable but the Kells sod was in excellent condition and it helped make this a fast exciting game.

The final result did not look on the cards after 10 minutes when O'Mahonys led by 1-5 to one point but some positional switches and increased work rate by the Athboy/Rathcairn lads saw them go in just a point behind at the half 1-7 to 1-6, having missed a penalty following a foul on Anthony Swaine, Eamonn O'Donnachada got the goal on 20 minutes.

The second half produced some great scores two in particular  from Caomhin O'Griofa and a long range shot from the wing from Aarron Ryan. When Anthony Swaine pounced for Clanns  second goal it looked like the game was up for o Mahonys, but with 5 minutes remaining and 6 points down the Navan lads rallied and got two great goals to tie the score with time almost up.

O'Mahonys pressed for a winner but the Clann backs cleared down field and when Ryan got pocession he fired over what proved to be the winning score just on full time.

Clann na nGael will look to add the U21 title to the Intermediate and Minor Championships already secured when the face Rathmoylon in the final next Weekend.
