Eamon O Donnchadha scooped scoring honours as Clann na nGael claimed the MHC Division 2 title on Sunday when outscoring O'Mahonys at Pairc Tailteann early on Sunday afternoon.

Clann na nGael  1-12
O'Mahonys  1-5

The outcome was in the balence until O'Mahonys lost two players to red cards in four third quarter minutes. Clann na nGael capitalised to deservedly claim the honours.

O'Mahonys were just two points in arrears when Dylan Byrne departed in the 41st minute. The Brews Hill team were still within a score of Clann na nGael when Gerard Dillon departed in similar fashion before the end of the third quarter.

In between the dismissals Dermot McKenna landed a free from inside his own 65 to leave O'Mahonys 1-4 to 1-6 in arrears.

With Eamon O Donnchadha leading the scoring charge, the number 11 finished with 1-8 to his name, Clann na nGael pulled clear in the latter stages. Near the end, Shane Power became the third O'Mahonys player to be redcarded.

Clann na nGael, with the wind from the town end at their backs, posted a brace of early points from Eamon O Donnchadha.

O'Mahonys were boosted 11 minutes in when Dermot McKenna's delivery from midfield found Conor Fitzpatrick. At the second attempt the full-forward netted and the nearly board read 1-0 to 0-2.

Three minutes later Clann na nGael responded in spectacular fashion with O Donnchadha netting from outside the 20-metre line.

McKenna's 17th minute free trimmed the deficit to the minimum. Centre-half-back Killian Swaine posted Clann na nGael's final score of the first-half, from a 20th minute 65.

The remaining third of the half yielded just one score, Paddy Dillon for O'Mahonys. The Brews HIll outfit might have scored more but for a diligent Clann na nGael defence.

Despite posting just one second quarter score, Clann na nGael led  by 1-3 to 1-2 at the break.

O'Mahonys had the wind advantage from the resumption. They levelled matters through Dermot McKenna (free) within two minutes of the restart. It was the only time during the course of the game that the sides were level.
