HS Meath hurling team of the week

September 30, 2015

Kildalkey's Tony Fox was that good over the weekend he could have played hurling with a flag.

The weekend saw silverware go to Kildalkey and Ratoath, while Wolfe Tones will now meet Clann Na nGael in the IHC final. Kildalkey and holders Kiltale will clash to decide the destination of the Jubilee Cup. After a big weekend for Meath club hurling we pick our best performers.

1 Stephen Masterson (Kildalkey): Made up for the disappointment of last year's final defeat to St Pat's with a string of fine saves including stopping a late penalty.

2 David Connelly (Kildalkey): The Meath under-21 star is emerging as a real talent. Once again broke up numerous Trim attacks with his no nonsense approach.

3 Eolan Harrington (Trim): Was Trim's best performer on a poor day for the town team. Drove on his team mates with some fine clearances, but needed more assistance.

4 Anthony Donnelly (Kiltale): Played a captain's part and his distribution was outstanding as Dunboyne struggled to break through the Kiltale rearguard .

5 Stephen Donoghue (Kiltale): The experienced defender is having a fine year and he continued that with a solid display in the semi-final win over Dunboyne.

6 Tony Fox (Kildalkey): It was an incredible 24 hours for the Kildalkey man who helped the club win a junior title before playing a pivotal role as sweeper in the SHC win over Trim.

7 Maurice Keogh (Kildalkey): One of the toughest tackling defenders in the county but also has the ability to launch defence into attack. Produced an outrageous piece of skill towards the end of the game, picking the ball up with his feet after losing his hurl.

8 Padraig Kelly (Kiltale): Back to his best in the middle of the park for the Jubilee Cup holders. Controlled the game for long periods as Dunboyne were sent packing at headquarters.

9 Eanna Harrington (Wolfe Tones): Chief marksman as the Tones saw off favourites Na Fianna after extra time to qualify for the IHC final on a very emotional day for the club. The midfielder sent over 11 points.

10 Donal Keogan (Wolfe Tones): A real powerhouse for the winners at Trim. The county senior football captain inspired his team mates around him and also got in for an important goal.

11 Cathal McCabe (Kiltale): Has established himself as a permanent fixture on the team. Brilliant work rate, scored a point and always willing to bring his team mates into the game.

12. Patrick Connelly (Kildalkey): Pulled all the strings for Kildalkey in attack as the 14-men booked their place in the county final for the first time since 2011.

13 Kevin Ryan (Kiltale): His pace and accuracy gave the Dunboyne defence plenty of anxious moments. Posted four fine points as the holders advanced to the final.

14. Derek Doran (Kildalkey): Got the all-important goal and was a constant threat to the Trim defence. Getting back to his best form.

15 Conor Kearney (Kildalkey): Gave a Man of the Match performance against Kilmessan in the junior final scoring eight points. The talented forward came on for the seniors the next day and got on the scoresheet again.
