Men on the Move in Meath

Participants at the Men on the Move St Colmcilles event

The Men on the Move project is back this September. The FREE physical activity programme will be rolled out over 12 weeks (2 blocks of 6 weeks) in 4 areas around the county.

Men on the Move aims to provide men aged 30 plus with more opportunities to become physically active. Other components of the programme include fitness testing, healthy eating, maintaining lifestyle changes and stress management.

In 2014 93 men aged 30 years plus participated in the project in Laytown/Bettystown, Kiltale and Dunshauglin with great success. Men on the Move has the ability to change people`s lives, as one of the participants from Laytown said of last year`s programme - "I had a double by-pass last year and have struggled back to exercise. The Men on the Move has really brought me on. I am now walking 3-4 times a week and I'm delighted I took part in this. I have lost weight over the last few months and that is just by doing this programme. I have more energy to do other things around the house."

Men on the Move can also influence family life as one participant in the Dunshaughlin area said "After a couple of weeks you feel the benefit and you can see the difference so that gives you extra motivation. Saturday and Sundays I used to lie around, now I go for a walk with the family or go for a run or cycle. That's a massive achievement for me."

This year the Men on the Move project will be delivered in Navan, Kiltale, Dunshaughlin and Laytown/Bettystown. The project will commence with information evenings in the 4 areas:

Dunshaughlin on Tuesday 29th September at 7.30pm in St. Patrick Hall.

Kiltale on Wednesday 30th September at 8pm in Kiltale GAA.

Navan on Thursday 1st October at 8pm in Claremont Stadium.

Laytown/Bettystown on Monday 2nd November at 7.30pm in St. Colmcilles GAA.

The information evenings will outline what the 'Men on the Move' activity programme involves and also includes an opportunity to get body measurements (Waist to Hip Ratio) along with tips on healthy eating and heart health information.
