St. Michaels 2-17, Syddan 5-0
A sterling all round performance was the basis for St. Michaels to get the better of Syddan in this division 6 cup semi-final in Carlanstown on Tuesday evening last. The victors were always comfortable in defence as they restricted their opponents to just a solitary first half score as they raced into a 1-10 to 1-0 half time lead. Daniel Murphy 1-2, Corey Blake 0-3, Josh Goslin 0-2 and a point apiece from Conor Gaffney, Cian McFadden ans Andrew Allen were the first half scorers for St. Michaels.
Syddan made a brilliant start to the second half with two goals in the opening two minutes to reduce the deficit to 4 points, however St. Michaels rallied and points from Andrew Allen 0-2 and one from Josh Goslin gave them a 7 point lead but slack defensive work let Syddan back in for their fourth goal on 42 minutes, this setback lasted all of three minutes for the home side as Brian Reilly registered his side's second goal after good work from Blake and Allen. The next four points all went St. Michaels way with Marty Giles, Reilly, Allen and Matthew Carolan all on target.
