Boardsmill juniors came out on top when they saw off a gallant fight back from near neighbours in this vital Junior championship game.
Boardsmill see off neighbours TrimBoardsmill settled quickly with Caroline Quinn grabbing a quick fire goal and point before Sarah Lynch got the first of her 3 goals on the night for Trim after 10 minutes. The rest of the first half was dominated by the visitors and they recorded a further 1.03 with points from Quinn and Paula Dorian while Alannah Hannon helped herself to a goal and a point.
Niamh Newman came on for Ciara Regan at half time and the early stages of the second half followed a similar pattern with Caoimhe Bird finding her shooting boots to notch two points before Quinn all but ended the match as a contest with a quick fire 1.02.
The visitors held a 14 point lead with 13 minutes remaining and seemed to relax. Key players such as Quinn, Rachel Troy, who had received a heavy fall, and Niamh McEvoy were withdrawn while Emma Mitchell, Wendy Farrell and Kate McEvoy entered the game.
Elaine Murtagh pointed for Trim and the hosts went on to grab a quick fire 3.03 with Lynch smashing two penalties . Murtagh also grabbed a goal while Sofia Maguire Isobel Varley and Hannah Clancy all scored points.
Boardsmill had to settle for a two point winning margin in a game that they had complete control of for long periods. Mentors Eamon Murray and Brian Troy were quick to point the lessons learned to their charges.
The winners will hope to obtain a semi final place and will await other results and decisions on the make up of the last 4 in this competition.
Boardsmill were best served by Hannah Kealey and Quinn while Hannah Tuite , Troy and Alannah Hannon contributed significantly . Others to impress included Maeve Murray , Niamh McEvoy , Paula Dorian and substitute Niamh Newman who did her chances of starting the next time no harm at all .
