IHC: Great win not enough for Kilskyre

September 01, 2015

Kilskyre keeper Kevin Devine

Kilskyre 1-11 Drumree 2-7

Kilskyre finished off 2015 on a high by defeating one of the favourites Drumree but after other results not going their way it meant it was the last game in this years championship for Kilskyre.

Kilskyre put in an outstanding first half with fine performances all over the pitch, they raced into an early lead with some fine scores by Peadar Byrne and a cracking goal by Seanie Geraghty. Along with free taking of Derek Muldoon the North Meath men were looking good. Simon Deevey finished off the first half with two superb points from play. Kilskyre went in at half time 1-7 to 0-3 ahead to lead by seven points at the break.

In the second half Drumree hit back and at one stage near the end they had it all square until Seanie Geraghty popped over  the winner  in an very exciting game. Overall it was a brave team performance from Kilskyre who gave two young men their first taste of championship hurling in Eoghan McCabe and Killian McCaffrey and both have big futures ahead.  Again it started from the back with Kevin Devine in goal with some fine saves and his long puck outs, in front of him Podge Muldoon, captain Benji Smith and the outstanding Paddy Briody.

Half back Michael Geraghty, James Baugh and James O Higgins can all hold their heads up high. In midfield Peadar Byrne was in fine scoring form along with the ever realible Seanie Geraghty. Kilskyre were in full control in this sector.  The forwards were  Naill Farrelly, Tom Shine and Derek Muldoon, who played carrying an injury, along with the two debutants Eoghan Mc Cabe and Killian Mc Caffrey.  But it was Simon Deeveys point scoring from play and his presence up front was a pleasure to watch for the travelling Kilskyre supporters.

Ok it finished up to be Kilskyres last game in this years championship but everything looks good in the camp for an assault on the 2016 intermediate championship.
