B FL Div 6: All square in Kilmainhamwood

July 28, 2015

Kilmainhamwood's Sean Mulligan

Kilmainhamwood         2-12

Ratoath                        3-09

Kilmainhamwood and Ratoath played out an entertaining draw last Monday night, the 27th of July, played in Kilmianhamwood. A win for the 'Wood and if other results went their way, a place in the final was guaranteed, but this was not to be, and now the 'Wood head into a winner take all clash against Drumbaragh, with the victors heading to the final to play O' Mahoneys.

Kilmainhamwood had all the early possession, but could not make this count come scores, and it was Ratoath who hit the 'Wood on the counter after a mistake in the 'Wood forwards, allowed Ratoath to head down the field and place the ball in the back of the 'Wood net. Kilmainhamwood quickly responded with a quick 1-02, via points from Paul Carolan and David Russell, while the goal came via the experienced Sean Mulligan. But again it was Ratoath who made advantage count and hit the next three points, before Ray Magee could keep the 'Wood within touching distance with his first. Ratoath kept tipping away and hit four more scores before half-time, while midfielder Gary Yorker kept the 'Wood in it, by scoring two of his own, one from play and another from a 45, Ratoath would head into half time two to the good on a score line of 1-07 to 1-05.

The experienced Francis Owens was brought on at the break, and his experienced showed when his first touch the hit the post for Kilmainhamwood, this lifted the side, whose first second half scores came via Mulligan and Padraig Owens, before Ratoath could respond with one of their own. The next three scores for the North Meath men, came via Mulligan, Russell and Magee to put Kilmainhamwood one in front midway through the second half, before a mistake in the 'Wood defence allowed Ratoath respond with another goal. Again with Kilmainahmwood chasing the game, the experience of David Russell and Padraig Owens put their side three in front with a quick goal and a point, before substitute Paddy Clarke tipped over another to put four between the sides heading into injury time. But Ratoath did not give up and some lacklustre defending by the home side allowed Rataoth to come back into the match and earn a respected draw by conceding a quick 1-01. In all what was an entertaining affair, Kilmainhamwood hope for a win in their next outing will allow them the chance to reach their first and hopefully not last final of the year.
