Summerhill's Eamonn Ryan in action against St Brigid's in the JFC

Summerhill recorded an emphatic win in their B-League Division 2 encounter with St Colmcilles on Saturday evening in Summerhill. The home side amasses an impressive 3 goals and 24 points, all from play, over the hour.

Summerhill opened the scoring with a point from John Farrell which was quickly cancelled out by a converted free from St Colmcilles. Summerhill then took complete control of the match scoring ten unanswered points. Full forward Cathal Byrne was instrumental in many of these score winning possession at will. In one of Colmcille's few forays up field Robbie McDonnell was forced in to a fine save when he diverted a goal bound effort over the bar. Cathal Byrne continued to be a thorn in Colmcille's side scoring 4 points in a row. Eamonn Ryan added another before Byrne closed the scoring for the half with his 6th point, this time with his left foot. This left the half time score Summerhill 0-16 St Colmcilles 0-3.

As in the first half the second half scoring was opened by a John Farrell point before St Colmcilles struck for the first goal of the match followed  quickly by another point to close the gap. Summerhill struck back with a Gary Rispin point followed by their first goal. A great ball from Ross Tallon found Eamonn Ryan in acres of space in front of goal and he duly dispatched the ball to the back of the net. Summerhill scored their second goal soon after when Cathal Ryan, a first half substitute for the injured Brian Rispin, followed in a shot from Eamonn Ryan that dropped short to flick it past the keeper.

Summerhills third goal was added by substitute Bryan Hatton who also added two points to his tally. As the game petered out St Colmcilles were going for goals at every opportunity and keeper Robbie McDonnell made several good saves towards the end of the match. The final score was Summerhill 3-24 St Colmcilles 2-8

This was a fine performance albeit against a depleted Colmcilles team. The win keeps Summerhill in contention for promotion with one round remaining versus Nobber in a few weeks.
