July 27, 2015

Drumree's Fearghal Delaney during the HL Div 2 final.

Competition: Division 2 Hurling League Final

Date: 26/07/15

Venue: Trim

FT Drumree 1-09 Dunboyne 0-03

Drumree were crowned Division 2 Hurling League champions for 2015 after getting the better of Dunboyne in winter like conditions in Trim & can now look forward to playing Div. 1 Hurling in 2016. Credit must go to Trim GAA Club who had the pitch in perfect condition however the elements were to have a big say on the game as both sides struggled to deal with the wind & rain…hard to believe it is July !

In truth Drumree always looked in control of this match however the 1st score of the match took a while to come when Josh Wall pointed after 5 minutes, it would be another 6 minutes before the next score when a energetic James Reilly slotted over when under pressure. The game was being clearly affected by the driving wind & rain with both sides guilty of poor wides at both ends. Dunboyne scored their only point from play after 13 minutes & they would have to wait until the last  minute of the half for their 2nd score of the half. The game might have been a lot closer had the Dunboyne number 11 goaled a gilt edge chance when one on one with Durmree Keeper Brian Coughlan however he blazed his shot wide. All bar 1 of Drumree's 1st half scores came from play & it was clear to see that they were working the ball up the field better than their opponents & the forwards were working very hard, David Wallace & Sean White in particular were breaking down a lot of ball to on the rushing support & this resulted in 3 points in quick succession, 1 for both Wallace & White, while another James Reilly effort would close out the 1st half in which Drumree had wind advantage.  HT Drumree 0-07 St. Peters Dunboyne 0-02.

Drumree captain Fearghal Delaney is presented with the trophy by his proud mother and County Board Assistant Secretary Mairead alongside CJ Murtagh.

The 2nd half would prove a much closer affair as Drumree put more men behind the ball as the defended their lead while playing into the wind. Their defence was immense throughout the match, special praise must go to Caoimhin King, James Gaughan & Kit Doyle. King was immense throughout & cleared his lines time after time. Gaughan & Doyle could be called the Bash Brother after this performance, they didn't give their opponents an inch all day & time after time when the ball came down on top of the Drumree defence it was one of those two men who came storming out with the ball & bringing whoever was in their way along for the spin !

The scoring highlight of the match came after Drumree cleared their lines once more, the sliothar found its way to the right man in Josh Wall who worked his way to just inside the 21 yard line & released a rasper of a shot that rocketed into the roof of the Dunboyne net, sending Drumree into a uncatchable 1-08 to 0-02 lead.

The winning trophy was presented to Drumree captain, Fearghal Delaney by his proud mother & County Board Assistant Secretary Mairead.
