B FL Div 3: Michaels end Syddans hopes of promotion

July 21, 2015

Syddan's Michael Fedigan

ST MICHAEL'S 3-10 SYDDAN 2-5

HOPES of Syddan claiming one of the two promotion spots from Division 3 were dashed as St Michael's ended worthy winners in Ludlow Park.

Indeed the final score was hardly a fair reflection as the Carlanstown men led by 14 points entering the closing minutes.

Late goals from James Farrelly and Darren Smith put a much more respectable look on the scoreline at the final whistle.

James Farrelly had Syddan ahead within a minute of the start but that was the only time they led in the game as St Michael's hit the first of three opening half goals on eight minutes.

Farrelly also accounted for his sides only other point of the half from a free as the visitors led 3-5 to 0-2 at the break.

Syddan suffered a blow just before half-time when Conor Dillon limped out of the action with a hamstring injury.

The sides exchanged points twice in the third quarter but even allowing for those late goals Syddan never looked capable of staging a revival.
