AFL4: Curraha win in K'Wood

July 06, 2015

Kilmainhamwood's Michael Shankey

Kilmainhamwood        1-08
Curraha                    1-12

Curraha made the long trip down to Kilmainahmwood Friday evening past, the 3rd of June, to play a fired up Kilmianhamwood side, in the A League.

The match was played in near perfect conditions and with the 'Wood being owed a victory over this Curraha side, who have bet them twice this year all ready, in cup and championship matches, the 'Wood themselves were well fired up for this encounter.

Curraha registered the first score, but the 'Wood responded through scores from Michael Shankey and Stephen Kiernan, following this a mistake in the 'Wood forward line allowed Curraha the chance to hit the North Meath side on the counter, with the resulting attack leaving Kilmainhamwood chasing the match an early stage, as a goal for Curraha left them leading 1-02 to 0-02 mid way through the first half.

But Kilmainhamwood kept fighting and a couple of great team movements allowed them to register another three scores before the break, one each from Kiernan, Sean Mulligan and David Russell, Curraha went in at half time leading on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-05.

Curraha registered their first score of the second half from a free, but the 'Wood hit back with an unanswered 1-01 of their own, via a Kiernan penalty and a Ray Magee free, to leave one point between the sides. But Kilmainhamwood just ran out of steam come the end of the match and Curraha outscored them 0-05 to 0-02, and ran out four point winners on a final score line of 1-12 to 1-08.

Best for the 'Wood was Padraig Barber and Philip Moran in defence, Shane Clarke in midfield and Michael Shankey in attack.
