Summerhill's Sean Dalton

Summerhill 6-14 Seneschalstown 3-8

Summerhill recorded an emphatic win in their round 10 A-League Division 1 match against Seneschalstown in a game played in near perfect conditions on a sunny Saturday evening in Summerhill. Throughout the hour Summerhill played some great football scoring some wonderful goals.

Summerhill show their intent right from the kick off scoring 4 points without reply in the first 5 minutes. Seneschalstown eventually got off the mark with two point of their own. Summerhill then had a great goal chance when a Kevin Ryan shot was well saved by the Seneschalstown keeper but the ball was well recycled to Barry Dardis who pointed. Moments later Summerhill did get their first goal from David Larkin who took a pass from Padraig Geraghty who had made a great run foward from defence. This was followed quickly by a point from play by Kevin Ryan and an excellent one from Sean Dalton from tight angle way out on the right. This left the score 1-7 to 0-2 to the home size.

Seneschalstown got themselves back into the match with a goal. Despite been foulded the Seneschalstown player managed to round the Summerhill keeper and to get the ball over the line. As a result the Summerhill keeper Tony McDonnell received a black card to be replaced by Robbie McDonnell. This goal was soon followed by another point from the visitors to close the gap even further.

Summerhill responded well with a second goal. Padraig Jennings carried the ball forward from his own half before laying it off to Sean Dalton who fired it to the back of the net. Summerhill again let Seneschalstown back into the game when they scored their second goal. Joe Sherdian show geat strength to fire the ball to the bottom corner of the net from 20m despite been fouled. The referee was playing advantage but blew his whistle before Sherdian got his shot away but despite this the goal stood. Seneschalstown added a further point just before half time when a goal bound effort was brilliant deflected over the bar by full back Caolan Young. This left the half time score Summerhill 2-7 Seneschalstown 2-4. With the game very much in the balance Summerhill would have been fustrated as they left the pitch for half time. Despite having played well at times and having been on top for most of the half this was not reflected on the score board.

A lightning start to the 2nd half by Summerhill effectively ended the game as a contest when they scored 2-2 without reply. Two points from Barry Dardis and Kevin Ryan were quickly followed by goals from Sean Dalton and substitute Ross Ryan. Unlike the 1st half the Summerhill defence worked hard to ensure Seneschalstown would not get themselves back into the match. Both sides exchanged points before another burst of 2-3 without reply from the home side increased the gap. The goals came from Barry Dardis after excellent work from David Larkin and anothe excellent finish from Sean Dalton bringing his tally to 3-2 on the day. The game petered out to its inevitable conclusion with Seneschalstown finishing the scoring with another goal and a point to leave the fully time score Summerhill 6-14 Seneschalstown 3-8. Seneschalstown Report

Summerhill 6-14 Seneschalstown 3-08

The sun may have been shining in Summerhill on Saturday evening but there was little summer cheer for Seneschalstown as they fell to a heavy defeat at the hands of their hosts.  Trailing by three points at the interval having performed nowhere near their capabilities they would have been looking to improve matters in the second half but what was to follow will go down as a most disappointing thirty minutes of football as Summerhill outscored them by 4-07 to 1-03.

When the game threw in Summerhill got off to a lightening quick start when they kicked four points in the opening five minutes and looked like they might rack up a huge score.  Bryan Clarke looked to settle his side in the ninth minute when shooting for goal but when his effort was blocked out for a forty five he settled for opening his sides account when pointing the resultant dead ball.  Five minutes later David Lyons marked his return to action with a good one on one save and then showed good reactions to tip over the resultant rebound.  Clarke soon hit his second of the game when after being placed for a shot by Joe Sheridan he saw his shot from out on the right just creep inside the right hand upright.

Summerhill soon moved further in front when hitting a goal and a point and then on twenty minutes Seneschalstown saw a good goal chance passed up when Joe Sheridan shot very narrowly wide.  Summerhill soon added a point but Seneschalstown were to receive a massive boost when Bryan Clarke hit back with a major of his own.  Clarke rounded the goalkeeper and despite being tripped still managed to get the ball over the line and before the game could restart after the goal the Summerhill custodian had to make his way to the sideline after receiving a black card for the trip.  Brian Sheridan added a point soon after when he showed great determination to shrug off some rugged defending to point before the two sides exchanged rapid-fire goals.

Firstly Summerhill netted their second before Joe Sheridan showed great strength to hold off the Summerhill full back before turning and firing into the back of the net from all of twenty one metres.  His side then came very close to netting for a third time on the stroke of half time when after linking up well with Mark Carey, Damien Sheridan saw his fisted effort for goal knocked over.

Like they had done in the opening half Summerhill started the second one like a steam train and once more recorded the opening four scores, only this time they had hit two goals and two points instead of the four points which they had hit in the first.  Long serving midfielder Damien Sheridan hit his second point of the game with thirty four minutes on the clock when marauding through the centre of the Summerhill defence after Brian Sheridan had won a David Lyons kickout in the centre of the field.  Bryan Clarke added a free before Summerhill hit a brace of points in reply.

Brian Sheridan then saw a goal effort flash over the crossbar before the home side hit 2-03 in a three minute spell to kill off any remaining aspirations of a Seneschalstown comeback.  To their credit though they kept plugging away and finished the game with a goal and a point, the major from the boot of Brian Sheridan which flew into the top corner and the point from a Bryan Clarke free after a Robert Ruddy goal had been disallowed due to a free being awarded instead of the advantage rule being applied.

This result represents a setback to Seneschalstown's hopes of securing a mid-table berth in the League and they now have a tough run in to face with two away games in their last three games including an away game at table topping Dunshaughlin in the next round.

Seneschalstown: David Lyons, Conor Cowley, Cormac Noonan, John Smith, Mark Fox, David Matthews, Adam Carey, Tean Cummins, Damien Sheridan (0-02), Niall Lyons, Brian Sheridan (1-02), Brendan Lynch, Bryan Clarke (1-04, 0-02 Frees, 0-01 '45), Joe Sheridan (1-00), Mark Carey.

Seneschalstown Substitutions:  Sean Noonan for B. Lynch, Niall McCabe for C. Noonan (inj.), Robert Ruddy for T. Cummins, Ross Howard for M. Carey and Darragh Keogh for D. Sheridan (inj.).
