Blackhall Gaels 2-15
Walterstown 1-13
Although four of last Monday's players were lining out in the Blue and Yellow jerseys for the second time in 24hrs it did not stop each of them playing vital roles in Monday's win over Walterstown.
Tommy Coyle, Tom Delany, Conor Delany and Niall Kelly can all be proud in their performances on Monday, from Tom Delany's control of midfield to Niall Kelly's powerful runs up the field.
Blackhall started well, holding the majority of the possession but failing to get near the goals. Mark Ferris eventually opened the scoring and from there Blackhall never looked back. Liam Brosnan and Tommy Coyle both scored before Walterstown popped one over but Niall Kelly ran the pitch to widen the gap to 2 again. The match became tit for tat until Declan Bambrick came through for a wonderful goal! It looked set to end the match but Walterstown to their credit quickly regrouped and got a goal of their own minutes later. Another Coyle free dropped into the square were Michael O'Neill got his fist up, and his name in on the scoreboard with another goal! Another Bambrick score coupled with a Kevin O'Keane spectacular saw Blackhall lead 2-7 to 1-5 at the break.
James Kelly, true to form, worked exceptionally hard to win and keep the ball, and set Tom Delany up for the opening score of the second half. Delany quickly slotted over another point and Bambrick got his second before Walterstown hit their purple patch. Walterstown got back within 5 points of the Gaels and looked dangerous coming up the field.
However, some great defense work from all over the pitch, but especially the full back line, meant that Walterstown never got any closer to the Blackhall men. Some late mistakes could have proven disastrous but Ferris, Coyle, Bambrick and O'Neill kept the Gaels ahead. The final score was 2-15 to 1-13 in favour of Blackhall.
A great team performance, especially with only 16 men in attendance. A special mention is needed for Tom Walsh who played unbelievably for the full 60 minutes. The Gaels men look set to further their league campaign and will be counting on every man to continue this performance.
