Regional Feile: Walterstown rule in Ulster

June 29, 2015

The Walterstown Under 14 squad

The Walterstown U14 boys made the long journey to Tyrone's fantastically appointed Garvaghey complex to represent Meath at a Regional Feile. Given injuries and holidays Walterstown were somewhat understrength but the lads were determined to give a good account of themselves.

Walterstown had been drawn against Carrickmore - Tyrone, Killybegs - Donegal & St Galls - Antrim, while Bredagh - Down, Skerries - Dublin, Naomh Connaill - Donegal & Ballinascreen - Derry made up the 2nd group

In the 1st game Walterstown & the Ciaran "Dinky" McBride managed Carrickmore went toe to toe in a very entertaining & close fought game with Walterstown eventually coming out on top. Incidentally, Carrickmore like Walterstown have just collected a Div1 title in their home county.

In the 2nd game the "Men in Black" encountered Killybegs & whatever about "Jimmy winning matches", goals win matches & with Walterstown finding the net 4 times and holding the Reds scoreless in the 2nd, Walterstown again came out on top.

In the final group game the lads encountered St Galls and despite a close scoreline in the end the game was never really in doubt.

In the other group Skerries came out on top setting up an All-Leinster clash in the final in the heart of Ulster.

Skerries took early control of the game only to be hauled back by the Blacks with only a couple of pts between the sides for extended periods. Moving into the last 10mins of the game Walterstown held a 3pt advantage before conceding 3x very soft goals in a 2min period that were simply the sucker punches from which there was no return with Skerries going on to add to their tally & amass a score which wasn't a true reflection of the game.

A great day for the lads winning 3/4 games & becoming the 1st Walterstown team to become Ulster Champions.
