Ladies JFC: Na Fianna and Oldcastle draw

June 25, 2015

Na Fianna ladies

Na Fianna 4-02
Oldcastle  2-08

Oldcastle started the better in the opening round of the Junior Championship, played in Enfield on Wednesday night.

With a strong breeze assisting them, they kicked 1-7 in the opening half. Na Fianna found it hard to get the ball past midfield. It looked as if this game was as good as over. Rachel Walsh made some super saves in goals to keep Oldcastles scoreline down. Half time: Na Fianna 0-0  Oldcastle 1-7

Na Fianna took to the pitch in the second half a new team. With Aedín Slattery and Aisling Byrne winning the midfield battle, both were able to set up Chloe Flynn in the forwards. Keely Doherty was extremely unlucky in the final minute, when a kick for a point went narrowly wide.

With a mixture of youth and veterans Na Fianna showed great spirit in the second half of this game. Great determination and pride in the black and yellow was shown. A solid team performance with Catherine Neary, Aisling Byrne, Aedín Slattery and Chloe Flynn shining.

Na Fianna: Rachel Wash (Capt.), Sophie Flynn, Caroline Murphy,  Robin Kane, Keeley Doherty(1-0), Mandy Flynn, Tara Geraghty, Grainne Clarke, Aisling Byrne(0-1),  Sarah Foran, Aedín Slattery,  Catherine Neary,  Kate Losty(1-0),  Chloe Flynn(2-1, 1-0pen),  Aoife Morgan.
