HL2A semi-final: Drumree see off Kilmessan

June 24, 2015

Drumree's Sean White

Drumree 2-16
Kilmessan 2-09

Drumree secured their place in the Division 2 Hurling League semi-final after this well-earned victory over neighbours Kilmessan.

In what was a fair game played in perfect conditions in Ratoath both sides gave good accounts of themselves, Drumree took the lead after 20 seconds through a nice point from Josh Wall & they kept a hold of this lead for the remainder of the game, however Kilmessan always stayed in touch & competed to the end.

The Drumree forwards were interlinking well & took some nice scores through the likes of Sean White (1-02) Josh Wall (0-03). White's goal came towards the end of the 1st half when he persisted with a ball that looked like it would go out over the end line & won it back before absorbing a hard tackle then driving the ball past the hapless Kilmessan keeper.
Half time Drumree 1-07 Kilmessan 0-04

Drumree started the 2nd half as they did the 1st by registering a point after just 30 seconds through the impressive David Wallace. Kilmessan then registered the next 4 points in a row before Drumree sealed the game by reeling off 1-05 without reply in a 12 minute period. Two more David Wallace points were sandwiched in between a well taken Mark Devaney point from a very acute angle. Their 2nd goal came from the same man again, Sean White, who won the ball out near the sideline on the 21 yard line, he put the head down & brushed aside 3 Kilmessan men before burying the ball to the roof of the net.  This put Drumree into a 2-13 to 0-08 lead. Kilmessan to their credit kept going & scored two goals of their own, one being a cracking effort by midfielder Declan Smyth who gave goalkeeper Brian Coughlan no chance.

Drumree closed out the match with points from James Reilly & substiture Ronan Gilsenan.

A final against Dunboyne now awaits them.
