McHugh 'happy' to do his bit for Meath

Martin McHugh refused to get drawn into a war of words with Mick O'Dowd after being described as 'a bit of a one-trick analyst' by the Meath manager.

O'Dowd was responding to a claim made by the Donegal All-Ireland winner that the Celtic Tiger years has turned the Royals soft.

Following Meath's far from convincing display against Wicklow last Sunday week, McHugh said: "Maybe through the Celtic Tiger they had it too good.

"Look, we'll see, but you'd feel that if they came up against Dublin at this stage, that unless they parked two or three buses, they'll be in big trouble."

The Meath manager hit back: "He's probably a bit of a one-trick analyst isn't he, to coin a phrase that he used himself.

"Look, these things are for those fellas to come out with and for supporters (to debate). We don't really dwell on it, we don't have the time to dwell on it."

But McHugh refused to rise to the bait, telling The Irish Daily Star: "If I can do anything for Meath football to get it close to where Meath football was, I'm happy.

"We need Meath football back at the table. I would be glad to see them back, a big populated county like that with their tradition."
