St Ultans 0-12 Trim 0-11

St Ultans earned their first points of the 2015 Championship with a hard earned win over Trim in Athboy on Tuesday evening.

In a very entertaining game there was little to separate the sides through out the Hour. Ultan's first half scores came courtesy of Paul Murray, Gary Gorman, Mark Allen, Conor Smyth and a pointed free from Cian Rennicks.  Their defence was resolute throughout and worked tirelessly to curtail Trim who also scored 5 points in opening half.

Half Time was all square at five points a piece.

The second half started brightly from Ultans with excellent long range scores from  Tony Smyth, Ronan Breslin, Mark Allen and the excellent Martin Dolan.  Trim continued to claw back scores and there was never anymore than 2 points in it throughout the half.  The winners were reduced to ten men with Ronan Galligan receiving a straight red with 10 minutes remaining.  They added 2 further points by Paul Murray and Conor Smyth and lead by two entering the closing stages.

Trim to their credit never gave up and added two late scores to draw matters level with 2 minutes of injury time played. Ultans worked their last kick out and won a free when substitute Gearoid Rennicks was fouled.  Gary "Gooch" Gorman was the hero, cooly slotting over the resultant free with last kick of game.

It was an excellent team performance with Jason Bennett, Martin Dolan, Declan Galligan and Darren Mallon particularly impressive.
