BECTIVE 3-19
BOARDSMILL 0-6
Boardsmill lost to Bective for the second time in championship football this year as the men from Navan claimed a comprehensive victory over the mill men in Athboy.
It was Bective who started brightest as they raced into a 1-6 to no score lead, their goal came after several missed attempt on goal one of which was a cat like reflex save from the Bobus Kelly. Boardsmills first point came from the legendary left boot of Eric Cribbin as he dazzled his magic before turning and dissecting the posts with pin point accuracy. Cribbin was rolling back the years with his return to the Boardsmill number eleven jersey, he was being supported by another veteran and former county young hurler of the year in Paudie Guy playing as a wing forward. They were lucky there was a young sixteen year old on the other wing in James Mitchell as he brought the average age of the half forward line down to thirty seven. Bective kicked on to finish out the half leading 3-8 to 0-1. Bective were looking like the Kerry footballers with the way they spread the ball around where as Boardsmill were looking like the Kilkenny footballers.
The second half continued in much the same way as the first as Bective went on a scoring spree before Cribbin kicked two more long range points before Stephen Gibbons Jnr added a free following a pivoting run from defence. It was time for son to set up father as young Stephen Gibbons passed off to dad Stephen Gibbons Snr before a high shot just cleared the crossbar. Cribbin finished off the Boardsmill scoring with a point from a tight angle. Bective kicked on from here as they racked up a total of eleven second half points to leave the full time score Bective 3-19 Boardsmill 0-6. There was good and bad news for Boardsmill from the match as promising hurler Paudie Guy was forced off with a calf/hamstring/back injury. The positive was the return of Eoin Dunne to the mill team. The former Meath minor prodigy made the welcome return from injury showing he lost none of his guile or ability.
Best for Boardsmill on a tough evening were Ronan Kelly, Cian the stag Royston, Stehen Gibbins Jnr and Snr, Eric Cribbin, Aidan McGrath and Eoin Dunne.
