MFL5: Clann na nGael reach decider

May 19, 2015

Eamon Ó Donnchadha - Clann Na nGael

Clann na nGael 3-18
Dunderry 1-9

The scoreline does not reflect what was in fact a keenly contested minor semi final between these two neighbours in Athboy on Monday evening.

Clann seemed to find scores easy to come by and with Goalkeeper Gary Kelly in outstanding form for Clann Na nGael they built up an early lead.

Clann na nGael went in to an early lead through points from Cian Swaine and Rory Tuite and when Tuite took a quick free to set up Calum Ennis for Clanns first goal the Athboy/Rathcairn lads led by 4 points approaching half time.

A sweeping attacking move led to a Rory Smith goal just before half time which left the half time score Clann na nGael 2-6 to 0-4.

The second half began with Dunderry enjoying a strong wind at their backs and they looked to make a game of it getting two quick points .A point from County Minor Eamon Ó Donnchadha settled Clann a bit but when the Dunderry lads got a goal to leave just 4 points in it anything could have happened.

But it was not to be for Dunderry, Eamon Ó Donnchadha took over at midfield and began some great Clann na nGael attacks with surging runs from deep. One of these runs set up Rory Tuite for a third Clann na nGael goal and with points from Cian Swaine, Calum Ennis and Ó Donnchadha Clann na nGael finished strongly to qualify for a final meeting with neighbours Gaeil Colmcille which will be played after the exams.

Clann na nGael: Gary Kelly, Conor Kelly, Luke Brogan, Peter Bird, Conor Fenton, Dylan Hand, Colm Ferguson, Eamon Ó Donnchadha, Calum Ennis, Conor Hayes, Cian Swaine, Cian Ivers, Rory Tuite, Rory Smith,
