St. Ultan's 0-14
Dunboyne 2-11

St. Ultan's lost out narrowly to Dunboyne in this B-League encounter played on Tuesday evening.

Missing some players from the Junior C match with Castletown, the Ultan's nonetheless started brightly creating a couple of chances that were blazed wide. The hosts then took their chance to open the scoring when a long ball in broke kindly to a corner forward who made no mistake from close range, kicking over the bar. The Bohermeen/Martry effort responded with two points through Stephen Quirke, the second one a fine individual effort. The Ultan's lead was not long lived however, as a long ball in from a Dunboyne midfielder found a forward who turned to fire high into the St. Ultan's net. The first half was played in a very open style and both sides created numerous chances. Paul Murray scored an excellent point from range to close the gap, and the busy Shane Dolan found himself clean through on goals shortly afterwards. His shot was well parried by the Dunboyne goalkeeper, but the ball fell to Emmet Costello who managed to get a point to salvage something from the attack. A mistake in defence five minutes before half time would prove costly for the Ultan's however, as a broken ball was not cleared and the resulting Dunboyne pass into the full forward line ended with another well taken goal. The half time score was Dunboyne 2-07 - 0-08 St. Ultan's.

The second half was a tighter affair that proved very exciting towards the finish. Barry Brady and Darren Costello were soon introduced for the visitors, and though several chances went a-begging Ultan's were clearly in the ascendency. Paul Murray scored another excellent point to close the gap and as the game drew on, the Bohermeen men started pushing for goals. Two clear cut chances were blazed wide however, and in truth had the ball ended up over the bar St. Ultan's would have been in a good position to go on and win the game. As it was, points from Stephen Quirke frees got the black & green outfit to within one with only four minutes to go. The rest of the game would belong to Dunboyne, and despite heroic attempts to turn the ball over from Shane Mulroe, Shane Dolan and Jamie Coogan, Dunboyne tagged on two more points to finish three point winners. FT Score Dunboyne 2-11 - 0-14 St. Ultan's.
